8 year old leaves poop in his underwear daily

f_a
My son just turned 8 and for the past month, he has been leaving poop stains in his underwear daily! Sometimes they are just stains but most of the time its more like a dried piece of it. Its very annoying and embarrassing because as he runs around, I always find little dried pieces around the house that must've fallen from his underwear. On top of that, he always smells of poop. The smell is just horrible and very noticeable even as he just walks by. He had constipation problems since he was little but we dealt with it using laxatives and what not. But, now that he started using the bathroom regularly, this problem happens. I tried all kinds of reprimand but with no success. When I try to talk to him about it, he just stays silent or says that he doesn't know why its happening. What is more frustrating is that he seems totally fine with the whole situation like its not a problem no matter what how many times I try to explain how inappropriate for this to keep happening. I really need help.

Oh my god thank goodenss for your post!  My son is 11 and I find poop droppings throughout the house and I ask him if he is wiping and he said yes and he doesn't understand?  I had him start using wipes to ensure that he is "clean" and not "smelling".  HELP is this normal should I take him to see theperist

F_A,  this sounds like encopresis.    It sounds like there is poop leaking out from around an impaction.

Google encopresis and see if this sounds right.   It sounds like although he used to have laxatives,  he now still has impacted stool issues.

This condition can be treated with continuous fiber in his diet to remove compacted stool.

I think he acts like he doesn't care but in reality he doesn't know how to make this better.

Best wishes.
