Can any Dr or Technician answer is there a way to detect what is causing pain and inflammation following a platysmal plication? I had a platysmal Plication done June 23, 2008. I experienced a large Seroma followed by a build up of irritated tissue in my throat where the platysmal was sutured and it grew to the size of a small grapefruit and would bulge when I spoke.(I posted a couple questions back then trying to determine the cause of the bulging) It was painful and disfiguring. After a CT scan showed no infection but just a mass of irritated tissue, my Dr reopened the incision becuz I told him suspected I was experiencing foreign body tissue reaction. To the permanent sutures along the platysmal. I do have allergies and a dermagraphic response to even small irritation of my skin. The platysmal was also tenting suggesting that the sutures were too tight. Long story short, after the sutures were removed I felt much better and after a few months the tissue inflamation subsided and I ws beginning to look better. I still noticed that there were a couple of small pea sized lumps along the platysmal however, and in the 6 months since the second surgery which was performed on Sept 24 2008, (that's when he removed the deep permanent sutures) these little lumps flare up and swell my throat out again like a bull frog but not as extreme as when all the sutures were still in there, and are extremely painful. To me, it feels like frgaments of the polypropelene braided suture material (Ethicon brand) still embedded in my tissue working there way out and causing the tissue reaction. We have treated it with antibiotics and prednezone and it subsides but the little lumps are still there. Not visable but can be felt when palpatated. Could scar tissue cause the inflamatory response? Or is my theory of suture material more likely? Other than waiting for a stitch to pop (or fragment of a stitch) is there any other way to see what keeps causing the reaction? And if it is a foreign body, then is there an alternative, non invasive way to draw it out faster? It looks almost like a staff infection but there is no visable infection. No pus or drainage only swelling and it feels like a splinter working its way to the surface. Any comments or thoughts is much appreciated! I also got some Radiesse injected in my tear trough that has caused lumps and red circles. Any suggection on getting rid of the lumps and red circles from Radiesse would be much appreciated! I received those injections on Dec 15th. The lumps and redness have faded slightly but are still visable and didn't have circles under my eyes before reciecving Radiesse. Will they eventually go away on their own? Thanks a billion!
