How do you know when your ovulating?

Hello
What kind of things should you look for when ovulating? How long are you fertile? Anyone suggest any good books on these subjects?

Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great book. I really became intuned with my body after reading it. I didn't chart, I just went by my cp, and used cyclespage.com to figure out my fertile days. DH and I also bd'cd every other day from cd7 until cd20 just to make sure that all of our days were covered. Good Luck to you! Shannon

You can actually chart your cm (billings ovulation method) also. I use this method and got pregnant the first month we tried! It teaches you all kinds of things about your own body. I was sold on the idea after a speaker told my husband and I (at an engagement encounter fertility lecture we had to take before we got married) that it had saved her life. She used this method and noticed her cm changing it's normal pattern. Thinking she was pregnant she went to her doctor who instead diagnosed her with some kind of tumors. They caught it early enough to save her fertility and now she has a daughter. This method is great for those with irregular cycles also. It doesn't focus on what day you're doing what but more on what you're body is doing and how to respond. I know there are resources on the internet to learn more about it and possibly even groups in your town to help you learn the process if you're interested. It's nice if you don't want to get pregnant also, you just abstain on days of ovulation! I like that it's natural. I think the egg is only viable for like 24 hours but there are others here that probably have a more acurate answer.  Sorry this got so long but I thought others might be interested also!           Jess

Hey, there are different ways to tell. Take the date you are supposed to start AF and subtract 14 days from there, you should start to be fertile from a few days before then and for another few days, depending on your body. Everyone is different. If you chart, you will know by temp or + opk tests. Also your cm will become eggwhite in apperance, kind of stringy and clear. Some people also get frisky at the fertile time, makes sense to me. Although not everyone gets this so don't wait for it. To be safe to cover your fertile time, I would try from the day you stop your AF until you start again, that's what worked for me and many others.

Good luck,
