Positive Pregnancy test after early miscarriage

Okay here is the history...
My first day of my real last period was 10/14 that resulted in a pregnancy that didn't take. I had an ultrasound on the 28th because I was cramping and had a brownish discharge... The ultrasound showed that my uturas (sp) was at a normal size and there were no signs of pregnancy... So from there I had to go have my blood drawn to prove that I was pregnant before... there was low level of Hgc (? is that right) in my blood... That was on the 28 and 30 of November.

Today I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive.... Could it still be showing positive from the miscarriage before... or could I really be pregnant all ready???? I think that with my nerves I also pee'd on the test too long.. I will take another one as soon as I need to pee pee again...

Thanks ladies!
Jenn

Unfortunatly I don't know. I didn't ask and they didn't tell me. all she said to me was that I did have low levels that showed a very early misscarriage

I had a similar thing just happen.  I had an early miscarriage at about 4 1/2 weeks.  On the day I started to bleed my Dr. took blood and showed a level of 20 hcg.  One week later my level was below 5.  (I took a pregnancy test that day just out of curiosity to see if it showed that I was still pregnant... it was negative)  Here I am about 4 1/2 weeks past my miscarriage and I am pregnant (took test 4 days ago).  This time I feel pregnant.  Slight cramping and tired.
I think you probably are pregnant. I wouldn't think that you would still be getting a high enough hcg reading from back in november.  Especially since you said that your pregnancy ended really early too.  That early on, you wouldn't have extremely high levels anyway.  Urine test strips typically test for hcg levels above 20-25 hcg.  Sounds like your levels have increased enough to get a positive reading.  Good luck!

I lost a baby earlier this year. I was only 5-7 weeks along.

I then got pregnant at about 2 weeks post m/c.  It only took me a couple of days for my levels to return to 0.

I am now 32 weeks along with a little girl and have had no complictions.  I will be having my daughter the first week of February.

Call your doctor Monday morning and set up an appointment.  For me, they did and U/S to confirm how far along I was.  Since I never had a period after my m/c, going by my LMP was not possible.

Your doctor will be able to do another HCG blood test to let you know if your levels are going up (meaning you are pregnant), or if there is just some HCG left over from before and your levels are still dropping.

Given how early on you were, I would think that your levels would have dropped off very quickly.  I would think that you are indeed pregnant again.

Please let us know what you find out.

Take care,

Amanda

The only way you're going to know if you're pregnant or not is to get your hcg #s from nov. 28 &30 to see if they've doubled. If yes, you're pg, if not, then you're not. Good luck on the bfp!!!

I had a similar issue last week, I was also having some bleeding/spotting. My HCGs continued to rise. The on Saturday nite I started having bad cramps. I thought it was because maybe I overdid it that day. It started getting worse so I went to the hospital at one AM. They did a sonogram and at 6 am I was having surgery to remove the fetus from my flallopian tube. They did not see anything in my uterus after they did the sonogram but because of my cramps they decided to have liprospic ( sp?) surgery and found that I was having an etopic pregnancy - which is why my HCGs were still rising. If I did not go the hospital my tube would have burst and I could have died - dont want to scare you but that could be another reason. I would have them check it out.

Today I am pretty sore and sick from the pain medicine - I will not be able to try again they said for 4 months.... very sad about that.

This is a question to MandaJo111.  I am new here but 2 weeks ago i had and early miscarriage it was right before my 6 weeks.  But for the past 3 or 4 days i have been very nausea.  I took a test yesterday but it was negative, and i know that my levels have dropped to under 5 (about 3 days after miscarriage).  My question is how soon did you find out that you were pregnant after your miscarriage.  Did you take a home pregnancy test that came up positive.  If so how soon did you take it?

I think I answered you up above, but I wanted to appologize for not seeing this post from you until today.

If it has only been two weeks, I would not test yet.  I would wait until about 4 weeks post m/c to test.  When I took mine it was about 4 or 4 1/2 weeks past my m/c, and it showed up.  I actually took the test with regular urine on one day and it was faint.  The next day I took the other one (I always buy a two pack), and the second one I took with first morning urine (which is what you should use to get the highest level of HCG) it was a little darker than the first was.

I know it is hard to wait.  I was surprised I was able to wait as long as I did.  I finally couldn't wait anymore.  And I am glad I didn't.

Good luck to you hun.

I am always happy to answer any questions.

Take care,

Amanda

Hello everyone! My last period was Dec. 2nd, 2005. I tested positive at home on Jan. 1st, 2006. Then I started bleeding  (red blood) for the next 2 1/2 days - not quite enough to soak a pad but enough that I did use a tampon a couple of times. On the 4th - I stopped bleeding altogether. I was very upset b/c of course I know red blood is not a good sign in early pregnancy. I didn't have any cramping though so i thought maybe I was ok. I went to the doctor for blood tests on both Januray 4th & again on the 6th. When I called on the 5th for some information - I was told my progesterone was 3.8 & hCG was 48 & that I was most likely miscarrying. Well, it is now Sunday night, Jan. 8th, and I will probably hear back from them tomorrow with results from Friday's test. Just out of curiosity & because I have been so DEAD tired (taking 1-2 hours naps for the past few days) - I bought a pregnancy test & it showed positive, still. Does anyone know what this could mean? Is the hormone just still floating around in there? Is there ANY hope that I could still be pregnant & have it be healthy? I am just a ball of nerves & emotion.

I'm new to this site and had a question to who ever could help. I had a misscarriage on December 1st and started bleeding on December 3rd. It was just like a regular period. Last Wed January 4th I had my blood taken and was at 9. I have to go and give blood again on the 19th. I took a pegnancy test on the 30th of December and on the 3rd both came out negative. This morning at 6am I took a pregnancy test and it came up positive. I took a different test this afternoon and it came up positive.

Does anyone think it could be that my first miscarriage is still working its way out or could it be that I am pregnant again?

It sounds to me like you are pregnant.  I know it sucks waiting for further testing.  However, a 5 or below is considered negative.  If you were at 9 on the 3rd, it should have continued to drop and been negative by now.  Are you using the same brand for all of the tests?  I ask this because they moniter different levels.  If you go to peaonastick.com, you will see the levels that they detect.  I do not think any would pick up a 9 though.

Best wishes to you.  Let us know what you find out.

Take care,

Amanda

I talked to the doctor yesterday and he is sending me in today to get my hcg count. I used two different kinds of pregnancy test. One said it only measured 50 and the other 100. I hope that means its going up.:)

I would say you are indeed pregnant.  If you were down to a 9, and you are testing positive with a 50 and 100 level test, then I would say yep you are.

Congrats!!!

That is wonderful.

I am now 35 weeks pregnant with a little girl immediately following a prior m/c. And everything has been pretty smooth so far.

Best wishes to you.

Take care,

Amanda

Hi, i am new to this site too but have a similar situation. I had a m/c on 30th nov ( 6 wks along). I started getting cramps on 9th Jan and thought that my period must be coming I only spotted slightly for a day. I am feeling a little sick and my breasts are tender sometimes so i took a test and it is positive although faint. Could it be residual from a miscarriage 6 weeks ago. It was natural no d & c required.

My Hcg came back at 665 today. This means I am pregnant!!!! Now comes the worring if every thing will be ok. I pray to God that I will be able carry this baby and not have another miscarriage. I go again on Monday to get my Hcg measured again if the #'s keep going up then I can set a date for a u/s.

tamone -- Usually by 6 weeks all of the HCG would be gone.  It sounds to me like you are pregnant.  I would make an appointment asap and have the dr. check your hcg levels.  He will wind up having to do an u/s although not until about 6 weeks or when your hcg has reached at least 2100.  Before then they will not see much of anything.  This will give you an accurate due date.  The test being faint just means that you are probably very early on.

623 marisa  -- I knew it.  Congrats!! I am so happy for you!!!!
Please try not to worry too much.  I know it is easier said than done, but I am sure everything will be fine.  Your numbers sound great.  As I said on a prior post, this time around has been pretty uneventful for me.  Other than worrying a lot, everything has been fine.  My daughter will be born on Feb. 3rd via c-section, and she seems perfectly healthy.

Keep us posted on your stories.

Take care,

Amanda

Hello Everyone,
Theses forums have helped me so much over the past year by reading through them.  I've never given anyone my story, but am deciding to do so to see if anyone has any information to help me, or has had a similiar experience. It is quite lenghthy so hang in there please. First of all, I have had a normal live delivery 5 years ago when I gave birth to my precious daughter, Hannah(First marriage). Last December, 2005 I got pregnant (2nd marriage) and miscarried at 10 weeks in February, got a DNC, waited one month, got pregnant, miscarried again at 9 1/2 weeks in May, got a DNC, doctor chalked it up to chromosome anomolies, waited again for one month, tried again, got pregant and doctor put me on progesterone (suppositories), miscarried again at 7 weeks in August, Doctor did chromosome testing, came back fine, it was a boy, got another DNC. Not only did he do all of this, but he did a slew of tests (serum karyotyping, lupis anti-coagulant, and anti-phos testing)on me and my husband, every thing came back perfectly okay.  Waited again for 4 months, got pregnant, was put on progesterone injections twice per week, miscarried again at 6 weeks this time, no DNC, decided to pass on my own.  Doctor gave me two pills to insert on Dec, 27, did so, started bleeding on 28th, passed 3 huge clots, still cramping 2-3 days later, passed placenta on 30th.  I don't so much feel pregnant, except that my breast have not gone back to looking normal, (their not sore) just big dark nipples etc and I keep gaining weight and am starting to feel a little nauseaus again. I chart normally and have had no real symptoms of ovulating, so my husband and I had intercourse on Jan 9, my breast are still looking pregnant and I'm still gaining weight, so I decided to take a preg test.  It was positive, very bright on Dec 13.  Is this normal to have HCG in your body after two weeks of passing the placenta or could this be a new pregnancy.  And, does anyone have any experience of having a normal pregnancy after so many losses, and finding absolutely nothing wrong.  I have had a rough year and don't know if I should try or not. It's becoming quite exhausting, but I want a little one SOOOOOO badly.

Hi everyone, I am so glad I have found this website and hope someone can offer me some advice.  I found out that I am pregnant 1 week ago, I think I am about 6-7 weeks, 4 days ago I have started spotting, brown/red but with a little discharge too, it is only when I pass urine that I notice it on the tissue and a miniscule amount in my underwear, I have had no cramps, pain or heavy bleeding and at the moment there have been no clots or fresh blood seen, I am really worried as it is my first pregnancy and don't know what is normal and what isn't?  Any comments please are very welcome, thank you.

I would call your doctor ASAP.  Brown is usually not a good sign, however it could just be old blood from implantation bleeding.  Good Luck to you and GOD BLESS!

I was just wondering if anyone has gotten pregnant two weeks after their miscarriage?  I have had two successfull pregnancies before this m/c.  If I go according the first date of my miscarriage, which was like a regular period on Dec. 23, 2005 then I would be due to start my period on this Friday.  I took a pregnancy test last night which was neg. I'm affraid to take another one.  I have a tingly feeling in my breasts, but is it possible that I'm just willing my breasts to be tingly, because they don't really hurt or appear to be getting bigger? I have two more first response pt. Has anyone else used first repsonse and how early did you take your positive test using it? Yesterday would have been 5 days before my period.  My husband and I were told not to try again until after first period, but we tried one time 15 days after miscarriage.  I would appreciate any input.

Hello everyone, I am new to this site.  Anyhow I had a miscarriage around Dec. 3rd and found out that I am pregnant again 2 days ago.  I'm not sure to calculate my due date since my last real menstrual cycle was Oct. 19th.  Do I calculate it from when I had the miscarriage.  I hope that someone can help me, I don't have a doctors appt. until next week.
