21 weeks pregnant, with bladder infection

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and still have a bladder infection that has been there since my first prenatal visit with my OBGYN. I have been on the same antibiotic 3 times and the infection won't seem to go away, I even had to go to the E.R. because I had severe pain. They told me to stop taking that antibiotic and get a urine culture, so tomorrow i am going to my doctor to get that done. I feel that my doctor doesn't take the time to help me and my visit are quick, what can I do? I need this infection to go away soon.

Thanks for the information, the antibiotic that I was taking was KEFLEX (cephalexin) and even though I was taking all of my pills and drinking lots of water it didn't help. I'm hoping that tomorrow they take time and view my situation, I was barely able to get the appointment tomorrow. I needed on last week because I went to the E.R. on the 26th of Feb. But hopefully the urine culture will be more accurate, it scares me to know all the risks and side effects from a bladder infection. This is my second pregnancy, with my first I just had UTIs.

Thanks again for your information ! =)

DRs are VERY limited to the meds they can prescribe for a bladder infection while pregnant.  Most of the meds are NOT safe to take during pregnancy so they are stuck to 1 or 2 different ones.  If you aren't responding to this one which you obviously aren't I believe there is 1 other one that they can prescribe, but does come with a few risk possibilities. Make sure you are drinking LOTS (10+ glasses) of water a day. Also try drinking cranberry juice, cranberries help neutralize the ph of the bladder.

With my 2nd pregnancy I had non-stop bladder infections from 11 weeks right up until 37 weeks.  This time they started around 7 weeks & (knock on wood) finally stopped around 30 weeks.

Hope that helps a little
