AMNIOCENTESIS

HI LADIES I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY HAD AN AMNIOCENTESIS AT 37 WEEKS AND THE BABY'S LUNGS WERE DEVELOP? THE REASON IM ASKING IS B/C MY PERI WANTS TO DO THE C-SECTION EARLY INSTEAD OF 02/18 DUE TO RISK FOR PLACENTAL RUPTURE . SO HE IS GOING TO DO AN AMNIO ON 02/05 AND IF IT SHOWS POSITIVE FOR LUNG MATURITY THEY WILL DO THE C-SECTION BUT IF NOT THEN THEY WILL WAIT A LIL LONGER. SO I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYBODY HAD AN AMNIO @ 37 WEEKS AND THE LUNGS WERE MATURE?  PLUS IM WORRY THAT MAYBE SHE MIGHT BE SMALL HER WEIGHT RIGHT NOW IS 5-7OZ THANKS!!!

They can du a c section now, your 37 weeks..
They can give the steroid shots as well to help the development of the lungs..

I don't know from first hand, but I have been watching the show deliver me on the o network. Any way the doctor on there tried for 4 years or so to get pregnant and she ended up pregnant this was her last chance. She had placenta previa it almost covered her uterus and she did an amnio on her baby. I would say that if a doctor who has been trying to have a baby for that long and knows the risks can have it done than the benefits must out way the negative. I would just ask my doctor this is how I put it if it was your mom wife sister ex would you tell them to do it. If it is a yes then go for it if it is a no then don't do it. Hope all goes well let me know what happens please I will be praying for you.

I had a 37 week c section, and avoided the amnio, and my daughter was born with RDS despite being "fullterm".  she died the next day.  I dont necessarily agree with any of the above responses.  37wks is no magic number.  An amnio may want to be considered, if the option is to be able to wait another week or 2 to allow for fetal lung maturity.

thank you for the responses! im waiting for monday to see what my ob says b/c my peri wants the amio and have the c-section earlier. Right now im more worry about the uterine rupture than the amnio i mean if he told me it can happen is for reason and is very dangerous. He says is because the scar of my first c-section was at 25 weeks and now im 36 and a couple days and is a big difference he says. so if the have the amnio it will be when im 37 weeks so the c-section will be within that week almost when im 38 weeks so maybe my ob can move up my c-section for the week and avoid the amnio?! ill see on monday what my ob thinks since he send him the report but im guessing that the specialist knows more you know..i will keep you guys posted and thanks for responses it really helps to know that im not alone and i can hear other opinions..

My first son was born at 35.5 and his lungs were fine and my second son was born at 37.5 and his lungs were perfectly ok. The amnio is uncomfortable and a bit painful but it's not horrible

I didn't read all of the responses but I know that you are considered full term at 37 weeks, so it will probably be just fine.  Good luck and don't worry.  You will soon have your little one in your arms!

my 2nd baby was born at 36 weeks and was perfectly fine she weighed 6lb 6oz (the ultrasound actually said she was going to be a little smaller than she actually was) her unger were developed and just fine, she had no complications. and usually 37 weeks is considered full term like the some of the other moms said I would be more worried about the amnio than just having the baby at 37 weeks, if they want to induce you you and the baby should be fine! good luck and try not to stress!

Keeping in mind that all babies are different.  I had my daughter a month early, I guess at 34 weeks! I went into labour naturally and she was born a whole 4lbs 11oz.  We stayed in the hospital for three days and I was sent home with a perfectly healthy but very small 4lbs 9 oz baby. The only reason they kept us was because they wanted to see the weight recovery after the normal oz that they loose after birth. Things should be fine. Be strong.

I had an emergency c-section with my 30 weeker and I did VBAC after that and will this time. THere is NO medical reason to even think for a second the plcenta will rupture! I think it is becasue some dr's just do not like to do them or the hospital doesn't like it. They shoudl not scare you over that! You have less then a 1% chance of uterine rupture with VBAC. and even less with a placental rupture. You have a higher risk with the c-section. 45 min should be fine time for you. Are you dialated at all? I would not worry at all and just think of it as a normal birth and opt to not have a c-section. Oh and it was 17 months fromt he time I had my emergency c-section to the time I gave birth VBAC if you were wondering. Dr's who do nto like to do VBAC will use scare tactics to force you into having a c-section. You can go to ICAN online.org to see if your hospital has a VBAC ban or defacto ban which is where there are dr's who won't perform it. Really you have my word that there is les sthen 1% chance of you rupturing! I would put it out of your mind! ICAN has many things for you to read to be informed about what is going on and the risks and studies. The US ranks like #41 out of 60 countries wher the maternal and fatal death are higher. SO that means there are 40 countries that rank better then us. The US is the only country that gives the most c-section unnessisarily and that is the reason for the high maternal and fetal death rate here and it is only getting higher. Just do not worry and you have made it and the baby is fine for her lungs!!!!!!! Just think of holding her soon adn smelling her sweet skin:)

thanks ladies! now im worry about the complications!!im scare that my water might brake! he said that he recommends it b/c of my prior emergency c-section was at 25 weeks and and he is concern about rupturing or something like that?! and he don't want risk it and stop from anything bad happening..i forgot already im nervous! But there is complications that could happen from the amnio and then on the other hand is that problem that he mention so im in between!! i think her should be ok what i just dont want to go into labor that day or what if something happens plus im like 45minutes away from the hospital! The report was sent was to my ob so i got an appt on monday so ill see what he says..thanks for the answers!

I would not do the amnio for anything! THere is to much risk for that! OK now I had all 4 kids early and the none of them were even 37 weeks the two at 36 and 35 weeks breathed great. With the 35 weeks one my water had broken and because of preterm labor they already had me on selestone shots to help develope her lungs. As with my 30 weeker and she did great also. THe amnio could cause rupture and that is one of the side effects. I also know a woman who just had one that her water broke and she lost the baby. It is just to risky. Why do they want you to go early becasue of that? It is not a problem to deliver vaginally and makes more concern and risk for rupture to deliver by c-section. THat is a medical fact! You could loose you uterus even. 37 weeks is considered full term! There is no reason to do such a test! If they want you to deliever early fine but you do not need the test! Oh yeah both my 35 and 36 weeks were 6lbs 13 oz and 5lbs 5oz and both came home in 24 hours! If they put you in labor once your water breals they can test it to see if her lungs are developed! If you feel comfortable delivering at 37 weeks I say just do it. But when in doubt don't and wait another week. LIsten to your insicts and your baby will be fine. It sounds like you question it already! Good luck!

I delivered my daughter at 32 weeks - I went in the hosptial at 19weeks,  I had two courses of steriods for her lung devlopment - her lungs were fine .. she had a blood infection from an undiagnosed/treated UTI I had.  I did not have the amnio as it was an emergency csection - but I thought 37 weeks was full term - I think you will be fine! Good Luck - BTW - my daughter was 5lbs - ...  a few days in the NICU with IV meds - and she was fine - now she is a very happy healthy 7 year old!
