Cant stop smoking even though its making me sick.

I am almost 18 weeks and the thought of quitting smoking makes me stress so bad I start crying. I hate smoking and the smell makes me queasy. Its making me really sick. I can only imagine how its affecting my baby. I gag on them alot and vomit alot. It has caused me to actually lose weight when I'm suppose to be gaining it. I have actually smoked more than I did before. I'm embarrassed to even tell people that I'm pregnant. How do I quit?

Talk to your doc they may be able to perscribe you something. They put me on welbutrin yesterday for depression and anxiety and they said it will probably help me quit smoking to so at the very least suggest welbutrin. Good luck!

PLEASE do your best to quit soon, especially if your own health is suffering, you know it's doing damage to your baby and it's probably making you sicker just being stressed. I was pissed when I had to quit, did it cold turkey but I've quit cold turkey once before so I knew I could do it. I was a real pain in the butt but I know now I will never go back to smoking (even though I still crave it 8 months later), just too expensive anyways, I try and look at it that way. Do whatever you can to try and stop, join a support group, and talk to your doctor, let him/her know you are really having a difficult time quitting and they might be able to suggest a safer alternative plus there are a lot of free "smoking cessation" groups available through hospitals and clinics that provide in person, online and over the phone support.

Two things that can help are a quit-smoking program based on hypnosis (some therapists can do this, or there are stand-alone programs) and acupuncture.  Neither is damaging during pregnancy, and if you could get the benefit and actually quit, how great for you and your baby.

Try not to stress to much  that alone can hurt the baby. It's hard to quit smoking in general then adding your hormones changing body ext sometimes it feels impossible. Ill be honest I tried so hard to quit with my secon and it was just impossible ( not proud of that). But I stressed myself out to the point it wasn't good when I tried. Now I'm 9 weeks and was able to quit 3 weeks ago. I had to do the same as poster above. Just started to ween myself down that way its not bad  hi e yourself a quit date. Make it realistic for yourself and cut down until you hit none by that day.

Don't quit cold turkey I made that mistake haven't smoked in 5 months but every time I see them my mouth waters and I'm hateful its better too slow down try smoking one less big a week and ween yourself down I had to start smoking I limit myself to 2 a day and I find I only smoke when stressed don't be embarrassed about it tho could be worse many people do heavy drugs throughout pregnancy don't fret the stress itself is worse for the baby
