Cramps & Contractions.....PLEASE READ;)

I am 24 weeks and on Christmas Eve morning I was just doing some things around the house and I felt some discharge (more than usual) and so I went to the bathroom and it was dark brown.  I have never had anything ever like this before not even with my daughter, so I started to freak out a bit.  My husband and I went up to the hospital and they admitted me to see what was going on, b/c by that time I was starting to have contractions every two to three minutes. They gave me some meds to stop them and fluids just to make sure I wasn't dehydrated.  After hours there and almost three bags of fluids I started to feel better, but then I started having the contractions again every two minutes and they were really strong and painful.  They tested me for everything and checked me and the baby and everything was great and negative. No infections, my cervix was long and closed and the baby was moving around just fine.  I don't understand why this happened to me other than maybe I might have over done it trying to get things ready for Christmas.  So they just told me to relax and take things easy, but HELLO I have a 17 month old VERY ACTIVE daughter and I can't just sit and relax.  My DH has been helping out but he has to go back to work soon and my Mom, Mother-in-law, and Dad all work.  I live really far away from my grandma and so it's hard for her to drive here and vice versa.  They gave me three different prescriptions to take until my Doctor gets back in her office after the holidays, one for an infection (just in case it didn't show up) one for pain and one for sleep.  I have only been taking the one for the infection, b/c the one for pain is 800mg and I really don't need medicine to help me sleep. I have gotten used to no sleep.
The thing is I am still cramping from time to time and having some tightening (braxton hicks or contractions?).  I have take it soooo easy since that day and still hurt, any clue?  Any one experience this?
PLEASE HELP

I am officially on bed rest now.  Its going to be hard for me since I am  used to chasing my 17 month old around, but I need to do what is best for me and the baby.  I will keep you all updated. I go tomorrow to the doctor.

I have never had this happen but I have a cousin and she has like a spastic uterus.  From right after the time she finds out she is pregnant, she has to be put on bed rest because any little thing will cause her to have contractions.  All she can do is go to the bathroom and bathe sitting down.  But I also know a girl that started having contractions really early like yourself, and her hb actually had to give her shots, I think daily, to stop her contractions.  She still ended up having the baby like a month early.  Your doctor could possibly put you on bed rest or give you this medicine to stop the contractions.  Just make sure you drink lots of fluids and try really hard to take it easy.  I know it's hard with another little one.  I have 5 and it's hard for me even right after I have a baby because the youngest one prior to that baby, always wants to be held.  Try to do as much as you can sitting down and don't lift anything you don't have to.  Take care.

They could be Braxton Hicks, and lifting a toddler and "over-doing it" can make you cramp up. I speak from experience. The discharge you saw was probably mucus plug.

Thanks;)  I am going to try my best not to lift her or anything more than 5lbs and get plenty of rest.  I have been and will continue to drink tons of fluids just to do my best to keep the contractions from coming back. I am going to call the Doctor first thing tomorrow morning in hopes that they will get me in to check me since I am still having cramping and contractions here and there.  Thanks for all of the advice;)

Make sure that you are drinking a ton of fluids . . . pedialyte might be a good idea.  If the contractions get more regular again, and you feel pressure, do not hesitate to go again to the hosp to get checked out.

My first preg, I had strong contractions almost throughout the second half . . . doc didn't seem concerned, but it was definately scary . . . I think life stress was contributing.

My second preg, with toddler was a little different.  I did, however, wind up making my whole downstairs a child-proof safe-spot . . . removed furniture . . etc.  I let my toddler run around and play while a watched her from the couch.  That helped a bit . . .
