I too was concerned about deli meat because I love a good chefs salad. Listeriosis (sp) is what its called and as long as you heat the meat to a certain temp you should be fine. While at the doctor they gave a good handout here is the website www.fsis.usda.gov. Good luck.
listeria is the concern ith deli meat, you have to atleast cook it in the microwave until you see steam. I love corned beef so i cook it o the stove til it steams for a while. Listeria a s serious infection that is fatal to the fetus. ~d
Really?? Ohh man...I thought certain brands were okay...?
Alright, well better safe than sorry, right!
Thanks Ladies!
your welcome, best of luck hope you get your BFP soon ~d
Not only is listeriosis prevalent in deli meat, but there are a TON of preservatives. A nutritionist AND my great-grandma in-law (who studies nutrition religiously, especially up-to-date stuff in med journals) both say deli meat is one of the worst foods you could eat.
What else is really bad for you? Those pre-packaged taco seasonings. They carry a ton of salt and preservatives and cause you to retain water and weigh more.
I'm not worried about weighing more or anything like that. I never put on weight..I guess I'm lucky like that! And I'm a very healthy eater-I worked in a gym for 2 years and learnen a lot about fitness and nutrition and my best friend is a nutritionist so I'm always hearing whats good and bad for me! The meat is prolly the worst thing I eat..LOL and I wouldn't stop eating it because of that...only if it was bad for the baby which from what I hear it is! So I'll just have to find something else to satisfy my sammy cravings!
I hate Tacos so I don't have to worry about that either! Thanks!
I was told the pre-packaged deli meats are OK. Listeria grows in the deli - so you should not eat ANYTHING from the deli cabinets at the grocery store. Since the meat is pre-packaged there isn't a risk of listeria.
My doc told me that deli meat from your trusted deli is ok. I crave for sandwiches so I cook them on the pan until it's steamy and put some cheese on top so I can make a ham and cheese melt or tyrkey melt. My doc said no hot dog. But I have to say I love my Schlotzky's sandwiches and I still eat it. I ate that with my 1st pregnancy too.
Yea I've heard of cooking the meats on the stove top...I think I'm gonna start doing that, just incase. Cuz I can't give up my Sammys!!
