Did anyone "steal" your baby name?

Have you ever had someone "call" a name you like before you could claim it for your own bundle of joy? My best friend is 4 weeks behind me but she "called" Clara for a girls name already. I guess I didn't try to stake my claim on it, but it is one of my favorites... Sigh. Anyone else not get dibs on a baby name? :)

Me and my friend were pregnant st the same time but she was just had her baby and I had told her my baby names for boy and girl and turns out we are having a boy and she had a girl, well she n her hubby never agreed on a name but both liked my girl name, she flat out asked the day she gave birth if she could steal my girl name cause I was having a boy, but the name had sentimental value behind it do I told her no because I still plan to use the name in the future and she didn't end up using it, but her baby went without a name until the day they were discharged I'm hopes that I would change my mind!

My sister took all the names I liked for boys and girls (she has four!) I was a little miffed as she knew but she got there first and I love the name we ended up with for our daughter. I'm totally stumped if this baby is a boy though as the two names I like are taken. I have my scan next week so if its a bout you're going to have to help me with ideas!!! :-)

My ex and i agreed that if we ever had children their names would be Legend (boy) or Legacy (girl). Well we didn't work out cuz he left me for some other woman. She got pregnant and guess what they named their son?! LEGEND!!!! I was so mad! I told my mom that if i were to ever have a boy his name would still be Legend and my mom was like 'well what if you and bobby (my ex) ever end up together again? You'll both have sons named legend!' Lol well my fiancé and i are indeed having a boy but his name will be Olyver instead :) not because my ex used the name with someone else, but because i didn't feel comfortable using a name that my ex and i had picked out with the man I'm with now. It just made me feel dirty. Plus, Olyver is such an adorable name <3

The day after I announced on facebook what I was naming my baby girl another girl in our very small ( less than a thousand) town said she was naming her daughter the same thing. After a little research I found out that we have 81 mutual friends on facebook so I'm assuming that's where she heard it. :\ they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so oh well. Lol

It isn't stealing, but more of a strange coincidence. When I was TTC I had already thought of a girls name, Rhyann Alexandra. I loved it. When we finally got pregnant, I told my mom the name I had picked if it was a girl and she had this really weird look on her face. I thought she hated it. Turns out, my sister picked out the very same name, first and middle, and told my mom a couple months prior. She only told my mom the name so no one would take it. Me and my sister had a good laugh about it, she said I could use the name as I was pregnant and she wasn't. I didn't have a girl, I had a boy so we named him Ryan Nicklas instead.

my friend and I are going thru this right now.  I am about 6 weeks ahead of her and had already had the name Jaxon ppicked out and didnt even know she was preg at the time well when we talked about it she said they liked that too....well I am due first and even if I wasnt I would still have that name..we have been calling him that for the last 5 months I wont change it.  She however is unsure whether she should pick something else or risk being called a "copycat"

I'm really nervous about this. When we found out we were having a boy, we decided to name him after my stepdads father, a man who I really respect. I actually told my stepdads extended family this on Christmas. Then, two weeks ago, both of my cousins on his side announced they were pregnant, an one f them started posting on Facebook about how much she loves the name and wants to name her son after her husbands grandfather and all that. I really hope she doesn't take it though. I know lots of people have the same name, but they will be cousins, born within a month of each other, living just a few miles from each other. They will go to the same school and everything.

That's never happened to me but it did to a friend. When she first got pregnant they told the family names they had chosen for the baby. Unfortunately they lost the baby. Her SIL took the FULL name they choose for a girl.

I like all of the stories! My husband and I have decided on Tyler Henry for a boy (Henry is my maiden name) and Laura Lyn for a girl (Lyn is a family name used in all the girls). I don't know why Lyn only has one "n" but it does lol. I will say I'm not one for too unique of names because our kids are already plagued with an uncommon last name (Thobe which is pronounced "Toby"). But I do like the newer names coming out! It's refreshing! My class had 5 Jennifer's in it, so I was never that special ;)

Its your baby, so if you don't wanna put her name in there, def don't!

We're naming our son after both of our brothers, bc I have only 1 brother and so does my husband, so he'll be named after his uncles, Christopher Alan :)

This isn't stealing....but his sister also said that her name is going in MY babies names as a middle name or whatever and i dont know what to do about that. Shes extremely rude and pushy... But also his big sister so he feels like he has to listen to her. I said no fn way!

The only person who knows my potential baby names are my mother. I find it easier that way. And the ladies are right, there more than one child with the same name. Its everywhere, as much as we want our child's name to be unique and different. Each individual child is unique and different regardless of a name : )

My sister in law asked what I would name a girl if I ever had one. She was pregnant and I had had two miscarriages at that point. Like the airhead I was at the time, I told her my top pick and she used it for her daughter. I was fairly upset at the time. I don't really care at this point. The name has become relatively popular.  By the time I had my daughter, I wouldn't have used it anymore. I actually found names that I
love a lot more.

Lanny,  since you don't have any contact with her at all,  why don't you name your baby the same name?  It's not like it's a constant confusion at family gatherings,  since you don't know her.
