Did anyone "steal" your baby name?

Have you ever had someone "call" a name you like before you could claim it for your own bundle of joy? My best friend is 4 weeks behind me but she "called" Clara for a girls name already. I guess I didn't try to stake my claim on it, but it is one of my favorites... Sigh. Anyone else not get dibs on a baby name? :)

Meg,  your boyfriend's sister's friend is going to be surprised in kindergarten to see that there will be a Sophia in every class,  maybe more than one.  It's the most popular girl name.

If this woman wants a name no one else is using,  she needs to pick a different name.

My aunt was due about 5 months before me and I told her I planned on naming my baby Jackson mace Hartman and I had a feeling in my gut he was going to steal my name she has been acting weird my whole entire pregnancy so the day her son was born she named him Ryder Jackson after I told her my name was going to be Jackson and after she knew she took my name she came to my cousins birthday and says so are you still planning on namin your baby Jackson? I said hell yes I am! Haha I was so mad I'm over it now but very backstabbing of her

Breanna  no one will know her baby's middle name is Jackson after next year,  and nor will they really care.

Jackson is another one of those names that there will be one in every kindergarten class in 5 years - and her boy's name will be Ryder.

It'll work out.  ;D

That is why I have unique names for my children. There won't be 5 of them in every class. My boys names are Malachai, Jaman & Urijah. Our baby girl we are naming Gabrielle

Sounds like your friend thinks you'll have a cuter baby.  Just saying.  I could care less what people think.  I shall name my kid what I want lol.

Yes, before gettin' pregnant and the name becoming popular, I've ALWAYS wanted to name my son Landon since It's very similar to my name, minus the D and It's my name pretty much. But my boyfriends sister named her son that and he's now 1. I've never met her so not like she "stole" the name on purpose but we know about each other and who knows maybe my name brought her the Idea lol. I've never talked to her about the name either and she was pregnant way before me so I can't really judge and say she "stole" the name, I juss know she took the perfect name for my son haha but I have a new name that I really like and I'm havin' a boy so everythin' works out.

My mother in law adopted a girl and they didn't like her name so they changed it, I told her we were planning on naming our baby Olivia of it was a girl (were having a boy) but then she said "ohh I love that, that's the only name we could all agree on" I was soooo upset, but luckily the girl was old enough to say she didn't like it that well and she wanted to be named Ashley, so we avoided a major disaster! Lol.

Lanny,  since you don't have any contact with her at all,  why don't you name your baby the same name?  It's not like it's a constant confusion at family gatherings,  since you don't know her.

My sister in law asked what I would name a girl if I ever had one. She was pregnant and I had had two miscarriages at that point. Like the airhead I was at the time, I told her my top pick and she used it for her daughter. I was fairly upset at the time. I don't really care at this point. The name has become relatively popular.  By the time I had my daughter, I wouldn't have used it anymore. I actually found names that I
love a lot more.

The only person who knows my potential baby names are my mother. I find it easier that way. And the ladies are right, there more than one child with the same name. Its everywhere, as much as we want our child's name to be unique and different. Each individual child is unique and different regardless of a name : )

This isn't stealing....but his sister also said that her name is going in MY babies names as a middle name or whatever and i dont know what to do about that. Shes extremely rude and pushy... But also his big sister so he feels like he has to listen to her. I said no fn way!

Its your baby, so if you don't wanna put her name in there, def don't!

We're naming our son after both of our brothers, bc I have only 1 brother and so does my husband, so he'll be named after his uncles, Christopher Alan :)

I like all of the stories! My husband and I have decided on Tyler Henry for a boy (Henry is my maiden name) and Laura Lyn for a girl (Lyn is a family name used in all the girls). I don't know why Lyn only has one "n" but it does lol. I will say I'm not one for too unique of names because our kids are already plagued with an uncommon last name (Thobe which is pronounced "Toby"). But I do like the newer names coming out! It's refreshing! My class had 5 Jennifer's in it, so I was never that special ;)

That's never happened to me but it did to a friend. When she first got pregnant they told the family names they had chosen for the baby. Unfortunately they lost the baby. Her SIL took the FULL name they choose for a girl.

I'm really nervous about this. When we found out we were having a boy, we decided to name him after my stepdads father, a man who I really respect. I actually told my stepdads extended family this on Christmas. Then, two weeks ago, both of my cousins on his side announced they were pregnant, an one f them started posting on Facebook about how much she loves the name and wants to name her son after her husbands grandfather and all that. I really hope she doesn't take it though. I know lots of people have the same name, but they will be cousins, born within a month of each other, living just a few miles from each other. They will go to the same school and everything.
