Can I ask why you are searching for a high-risk MD? Fertility issues do not make you necessarily high risk. Check to see if your particular OB is listed on thebirthsurvey . org and see what he feedback is like from other former patients.
I think your bigger concern should be how far away is the hospital that you plan to deliver at? More than 1 hour away is not always reasonable. If there is common problem with traffic (like rush hours, etc), then you need to account for that. If it would take you more than 1 hour to get to your hospital in rush hour, it may be a better fit to find a hospital closer to you.
Thanks for the feedback. I asked some of the girls at work this question and I got the same answer. I want someone I feel comfortable with.
Also if your over 40 do they automatically put you in high risk if your healthy with no comorbidities? I did go through IVF.
30-40 minutes away does not sound unreasonable. I am a good 30 minutes away from the midwife clinic I go to and the hospital I will deliver at (also the hospital I work at). I see lots of patients from even further away from us. Appointments become more frequent as the pregnancy progresses. I would ask the doc how often you will need to be seen, it may be different if you had fertility treatments or a high risk pregnancy.
