Getting pregnant after use of Coumadin (blood thinner)

I am on Coumadin (12.5mg daily) for a blood clot in my lung (pulmonary embolism). I have been on the medicine for 8 months now. My husband and I wanted to get pregnant before this happened, but we had to wait.
My mother in law is saying I have to wait 6 months after stopping Coumadin to try and get pregnant.
I'm going to a gyno soon, but it's a question that keeps bothering me.
How long of time (if any) do I have to wait after stopping Coumadin (blood thinner), before I can try for a baby?

Thank you for your comment. I see the gyno and hemotogist next month. I def want to wait and make sure that the baby is healthy, and myself.

i was told by my hemotogist that coumadin is known to cause birth defects and there is a waiting period (to get pregnant) if i had to take it...i would def talk to your doc and ask them about it...im sorry that happened to you but its better to wait and make sure the baby is healthy then take a risk

best of luck to you

Thank you very much for the response. I will be seeing a OBGYN doctor this month.

This is definitely a question for your doctor. Def bring it up to your OBGYN and see how it goes. I think that plenty of MILs think that they are giving the right advice when it comes to such things, but I would definitely take the doctor's advice on this one =)
