My OB said 2000 calories in the second trimester was a good number to aim for, but I would guess with triplets your caloric needs might be higher, although with the bedrest and in the first trimester maybe not. This does sound like a good question to ask your OB.
If you were exercising along with your diet, you could be losing some muscle mass now too. This time, I was in really good shape (for me) and have only gained 8-9 pounds as of 25 weeks but I feel as though I have lost a lot of muscle, meaning I have "gained" more than that. I believe my doctor said he would only worry if I was not gaining in my late second and third trimesters - I asked because somehow, I managed to not gain weight over Christmas! But, that was also in the context of speaking with me who tends to be on the pudgy side.
I am 16 weeks pregnant with twins. I was losing weight too. I weighed 223 before I got pregnant .. lost some weight and now gained it back to 223 again. So I am sure your weight will go up and down too. The doc told me it was perfectly normal.
Good luck!
Like an above poster said it is very common in the first trimester to loose weight but the best advice you can get is from your OB who knows your pregnancy. Ask them what they think and if it s concerning.
In the first trimester it's common to actually lose weight due to nausea and morning sickness. As long as you're eating something then that's all that matters. Not all women gain lots of weight in pregnancy so everyone is different. If you're overweight to begin with then it's certainly not doing any harm.
As long as you're eating something. I've found eating something small or snacking every couple of hours to help and drinking plenty of water and taking your vitamins then all should be okay.
Holy congrats on the triplets!!! im 9weeks with twins and i eat every 2hours. A small meal like 2 slices of peanutbutter toast or a can of soup. I eat when i get hungry. I don't watch calories anymore since its twins lol. Im just going with the flow. I try to eat what is filling. Maybe talk with your Dr if you are worried about the weight. Congrats again!! :-)
