My hospital provided pads, breast pads, pacifiers, wipes, the nose sucker, powder, vaseline for the babies butt, and even disposable undies (so you dont ruin yours). I'm not sure what your hospital will provide but ask your ob they will know. If you are an hour away from home I would suggest that you pack at least 4 outfits b/c if by chance you have a c-section you may be in the hospital for up to 4 days after delivering and who knows how long labor and delivery will take.Bring lots of snacks for Daddy too, the hospital should have food available to you almost always, nothing fancy but its something. Jammies are great too.

You really dont need much for the baby, beside some clothes/socks, Carseat!

I bought my own pads as the hospital ones are like a diaper, which is good for the 1st day or so. I didnt bring any clothes with me, just my few Pj's....I always packed my own wash/bath towles...

Wow, your list is very extensive! Fortunately all you need to take for baby is a going-home outfit and a carseat. The hospital provides diapers, wipes, even formula if you can't breastfeed.

As for your bag, you won't need pads as the hospital provides those as well. Otherwise your list is very good for your bag. I don't know that you'll need 3 outfits though. You'll really only need one to go home in. The rest of the time you can wear a dressing gown (nightgown) or a hospital gown.

I don't like the hospital pads they are huge.  So thats why I'm adding those to my bag.  I'm adding my pacifiers because the baby will get used to 1 kind of nipple.  (  I used to work in the " baby room"  of a day care and I saw that happen allot.)  An those solid rubber pacifiers are harder for the baby to keep in his/her mouth.  They tend to drop them more.  An its the same thing with the bottles.  I didn't know that they would give me breast pads, vaseline, power, and nose sucker.  So I can take those off my list.  I have gotten those undies that the hospital gives before.  Those are just a bit to breezy.  LOL.

Would I have to be in a hospital gown while there?  Or do I wear my sleep stuff?

Thanks!  I was wondering If I would have to wear a gown.  I wanted to make sure to bring extra outfits for hubby an I just in case we get spit up on.  Or, for me, if my breast leak on my shirt.  Or...lol... just in case I had to stay longer.

And... I have to have diapers and all that stuff for the ride home too.  Its a hour drive... with out traffic.

You'll probably want to be comfy so bring your pj's and stuff like that.  I don't think you'll need a breastpump for the first couple of days, you'll only have clostrom(sp?) and the best way to get your milk to come in is to let the baby nurse as much as possible.  Also, you won't need lotion for the baby, they tell you not to put anything on there skin for the first couple of weeks.  You might want to bring your pillow, and DH's like someone else suggested.  You'll also probably want your make up and hair dryer, if you use one, to make you feel pretty.  There will be lots of pictures and you'll want to make yourself feel better before you leave the hospital.

Oh a tennis ball also, it will help if you have back labor and some chapstick and maybe mints or gum..

I think you can take off diapers, wipes, rash cream and powder for the baby's bag...

I agree with the hospital pads being gross...i Definately brought my own....I also brought slippers in case you want to walk around while laboring.....You don't even need to bring diapers for the baby,.,..they have them there and will send you home with some.....
My Pediatrician told me that baby powder is not good to use in little boys diapers b/c it increases the risk for UTI;s b/c the powder particles go into the urethra very easily...Just a thought......No need really for nail clippers for the baby either...their nails are so soft that even if they are a little long, you can peel them right off....believe me, my little guy is 6 weeks old today and I still haven't gotten the courage to clip those little nails!  LOL....
I brought a ton of underwear for myself too.....they will provide you with mesh like ones (someone mentioned that already)...but they felt weird to me.....so I wore my own...

Lots of luck!!!

My doc told me not to use powder in newborns because it gets in their lungs very easily and they can develop breathing problems...

I do know that most hospitals do provide the basics. However, I found that I like the pads, underwear, and baby outfits I brought myself.
The only thing was that I had an emergency c section and ended up in the hospital for 5 days.
To anyone that is going to labor and deliver at a hospital I would definitely bring extras!
Mostly socks and underwear. Also make sure you bring something that you can were in case of a c section. Oh and my son only weighted in at 8.1 but he was and still is very thick, the diapers at the hospital did not fit my son!!!!
Good luck!

yea hunny u can take off all of those care essentials for the baby because EVERY hospital has all the items needed for baby, and i believe everything is Johnson and Johnson too. anything u and hubby use everyday, but make sure like someone said above their pillow, that u bring anything you use that keeps you comfie especially since you gonna try to breat feed, you should definitely bring your pillow. but yea, dont bring anything you dont have too, so just the clothes for baby and thats all., good luck, nikkie

Wow 8.1 thats one healthy little guy lol!  I'm praying my baby is not huge.  My mother in law freaked me out when she told me about her labor stories.  My husband was 8 pounds some thing.  An her uterus FELL OUT!!! She had to be stitched inside and out.   Then his little brother was almost 9 pounds.  She said that the Dr. cut her from her vagina to her rectum.  Needless to say I signed my paper saying I want drugs LOL.  ( That makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.)

I have never heard that about baby power.  Is there any thing I need to know about caring for my little guy after he is sermonized?  I'm going to update my list again and add pillows for hubby an I.  And I will take off baby power.  I'm going to take my crocks to wear when i walk the halls.  I'm not sure what else to ad.

Definitely gum / mints for you and your husband - great for during labor.  I used lemon suckers during labor too - one of the only things they will let you have once you go into labor.  music is sometimes nice too.  If you did lamaze, then they tell you to bring a focus picture.

most hospitals dont like ou to use wipes, so they provide water and cotton wool.

I know someone already mentioned pillow BUT if you have a Boppy or a BreastFriend pillow for breast feeding, you want to bring that as well.

i know i will be having a c-section and since i am not picky.... i will not be bringing much... the outfit i will wear home is probably the one i will be going to hospital in... will only be wearing it for about 2 hours...lol.... i will gladly wear the hospital gowns,pads,ect... lol

i am pretty sure that i will bring my shampoo/conditioner and stuff like that... house slippers for walking halls. robe or sweater in case you get chilly.... the hospital should have a breast pump you can use when/if you need to.  the hospital also has snacks but if there is anything in particular that you want...then you should bring it.

for baby i will have a small diaper bag (diapers, wipes, extra clothes...just in case of blow outs...i am 2 hrs away from hospital) waiting in car with carseat but as for the bag that goes into the hospital.... only a going home outfit, socks, and blanket (some hospitals will let you take thier recieving blanket home too) the hospital will supply you will diapers while you are there, and will probably send some home with you as well. if you are breastfeeding ask the hospital if you can have some formula to go home with...just in case you end up having to supplement before you can get to store to get some formula...they may be able to give you a few of the little bottles of it.  it is always a good thing to have on hand... just in case...lol

as for my bf... he probably wont need much... maybe some money for the cafeteria or snack room while we are there... i am sure he will want a break at some point....lol
as well as a change of clothes or two... that way he can shower and change whereas as the patient we can shower and put a clean gown on.... but if you are more comfie in your own gowns or pj's feel free to bring them. same with your own unders.... i will use the hospital ones cause it feels better with a c-section line to have a little extra ventilation...lol

good luck in getting your bag together... i am almost 28 weeks and will start my bag in another couple of weeks... just in case i go into labor on my own... this pregnancy is wayyy differant than any other one i have had and therefore it wouldnt surprise me any.  i have never gone into labor on my own/but then again have never had BH before either (until this one...ugh) so you never know what is gonna happen.

i am worried that i will go into labor as my hospital is 2 hrs away....lol

Don't forget to take an extra outfit for the baby! I had the perfect little outfit picked out for my son and as soon as I put it on him he had a major poop blowout and we had to start all over. I had to use an outfit someone had given us as a gift in the hospital.

I also don't think you'll need 3 outfits for yourself, instead you might want to take your own robe or nightgown. I took both. It was nice to get out of the hospital gown and feel a little less drafty if you know what I mean.

i just read the other day not to use baby powder, apparently the tiniest amount can prove fatal if it gets into baby's lungs. i was quite surprised, and also annoyed because i'd just bought some lol

You don't need diaper cream for baby.  You don't even need it unless baby has a diaper rash.  They don't let you cut babies nails for 2 weeks because the nails are fused to the babies skin.  You don't need a baby hair brush either.  Waste of space.  You won't be dressed in the hospital, you will need comfortable pajamas or robe and nice slippers. The hospital provides a lot of things.

I heard that about the baby powder too.  So that's not in my little guys bag.  And I packed 2 coming home outfits.  ( Just in case)  Some babies are born with allot of hair... I was.  So thats why I packed his hair brush... just in case.  I was to pack for 2 to 3 days for me and my husband because I live a hour from the birthing center.  So I have 3 long gowns, 4 pair of underwear, 2 bras, slippers, my coming home outfit, and the basics, for my bag.  I was told to bring nursing pads too.  We are getting close!
