Intended hospital visit

I had planned to go to a and e...or er...on monday. However this has taken a violent shove into today since liam appears to have chickenpox. Nathan is also gonna be checked over due to being out of sorts for about 5 days. I am also going to have the first of 3 hcg level blood tests taken, to see whether i'm having an ectopic again or if anything else is wrong. I've had chicken pox as a child and cannot for the life of me remember if this is a danger to pregnant women, any input appreciated.

i was exposed to chicken pox during TTC and went to my doctor as i was worried about it. it can cause birth defects, but my concern was that i had only had a mild case as a child and thought because of that that i might not be immune. had a simple blood test and they confirmed my immunity. i'm sure you are also immune if you had it as a child.

More from CDC

Chances are good that no harm would come to your baby, but timing is a factor. If you get chicken pox during the first or second trimester of pregnancy, there's a slight risk (probably less than 1.5 percent overall) that your baby will get something called congenital varicella syndrome (CVS). The risk is highest (about 2 percent) if you're infected between 13 and 20 weeks' gestation.

Since so many adults are immune, not many pregnant women get chicken pox –estimates range from 1 to 7 cases for every 10,000 pregnancies. But if you're not immune and you do happen to catch the disease while you're pregnant, you could get quite sick, and there's a small chance that it would affect your baby. If you're not sure whether you're immune, a simple blood test can give you the answer.

It depends. If you've had chicken pox before, you're probably immune, so there's little cause for worry. Up to 95 percent of adults in the United States are immune, including many people who had chicken pox and never even knew it. If you received the chicken pox vaccine (available in the United States since 1995), you're also probably immune.

I found on CDC website and got reassurance from my mom who is 30+ years experienced medical field.

Hope helps
