Is it safe to expose your belly to the sun?

Hey ladies,
Since the pool season is opening this weekend, I was wondering if it was safe to still go with a 2 piece swimsuit? Or is it time to cover up my belly? I'm only 8 weeks, so you can't even tell yet. Hope you guys have some info. about that. Thanks :)

I think that if you use sunscreen and modify your time in the sun you should be fine. I would not intentionally lay out for hours but some good sun is not all that bad. We all need our vitamin D from the sunlight anyway. doing things in moderation should be fine. If you have a history of skin issues you may want to talk to your doct first.

Definitely stay hydrated! Very important in the hot summer time!

Ahh...I've learned from this yesterday. Make sure you wear good sunscreen. I wore spf 30 yesterday and still got burnt but only on my chest and a bit on my bump. I hardly ever burn so I was quite surprised!! If I would have known that I would have used the spf 45...which I thought about but if feels like you're wearing a nice layer of glue!! LOL

That's good to know, thanks! I think I'm going to arm myself with at least 55 :)

Definitely a good idea to use the highest spf you can, although they say that anything above 50 isn't any more effective..so that's something to consider. but make sure to reapply often and drink lots of water. sunburn can put you into premature labor, and if you're in the first trimester it can cause contractions that can affect the forming placenta, so make sure and be extra careful to avoid burn!

I agree with all of thee above, i would still wear your 2 peice but just apply a high enough factor sun cream as pregnant women's skin is more prone to burn so iv heard anyway. And if your swimming then make it a waterproof one and re apply often =]

it is fine to lay out in the sun while you are pregnant, but it is definitely true that pregnant women get sun burned I am currently pregnant wiht my 4th baby and I get sunburned easy anyway, but when I am pregnant I burn way more easy and have even gotten blisters before! apply a good sunblock and drink lot of water, the only other thing is make sure you don't gett too hot, you don't want you body temperature getting to high while your pregnant! have fun!

Thanks ladies for all your great advice! Just got back from the pool and I'm exhausted! I put so much lotion on my body that I barely got any tan :)  My friends thought that I was crazy constantly applying sunscreen lol! I wore my regular 2 piece bikini but mostly stayed in the water so didn't get much sun on my belly. Going to the mall tomorrow for a nice 2 piece suit! Thanks again :) Hope this post helped other women as well!

I'm 5months along in my pregnancy and everytime I'm enjoying maybe ten minutes in the sun the baby starts moving a lot, is the baby irritated by the light?
