My daughter became sexually active recently at 17. She went and discussed birth control with her doctor and was put her on the Nuva ring. A week ago when my daughter was due to remove it. It was not there! Of course we all paniced. We waited another week and when her period did not come, she took a pregnancy test. She is pregnant. We went to her doctor yesterday and we explained that she put the ring in when she was supposed to and that when she went to remove it it was gone. The doctor said it is rare for that to happen. Her doctor also told us that her parther "should have" used a condom for the first month. Which she did not tell her when she put her on the nuva ring.
Now my 17 year old daughter is going to have a baby when her life is just beginning. She just started a full time job and planned to enroll in Nursing school in September. Her baby is due on Sept. 22nd. I am devistated for her and I am angry that the doctor did not educate her about using a condom for the first month. However, the doctor did tell us that for future reference she should know to have her partner wear a condom. Her partner is enlisted to go into the Marines in June and will not even be here through the last months of her pregnancy nor when the baby is born. I found this board and just felt the need to post this information so that in case anyone is planning on using the nuva ring, to be very aware all the time that it is inside of you at all times and that you should use a condom as well.
1st of all, in referance 2 the post by wannabeamommy22 its after 3 HOURS your risk of pregnancy goes up, not days.(easy mistake, any1 could make but want to make sure you have the facts) also, you DO ovulat... what the ring does is prevent the buildup of tissues that the egg would attach to after fertilization the egg wont attatch w/o these built up tissues and therefore is expelled and never progresses to the point of growing into more than a fertilized egg... if it was in for at least 3 weeks for sure, u would still be protected, but what the package says to do is either wait the one week and insert a new one OR immediatly replace it and begin the next cycle then... i prefer the second option, as it seems safer. personally i check that it is still in abt 2 times a day when i go to the bathroombecause i had a 'disappearing ring' once as well... it was never found btw.... must be a bermuda triangle sumwhere around here, lol. and a word of worning to any nuvaring users reading this; recent studies have shown the effectivness to be much lower than stated in the package insert or on the website... closer to 95% than the 99% they said...
Hey this sounds like me. lol.... I was on a Nuva Ring, went to take it out and it was not there, and yes there is no hiding in there. lol. My fiance and i kinda paniced for a minute, then we figured if i got pregnant i got pregnant. I think from what i read on the internet your chances increase after 3 days. but you have to remember with the nuva ring you do not ovulate, so your body would most likely have to go through that process first, if you had it in for 2wks or longer i would imagine you would get your period still, I lost mine at the beginning of my cycle is what i figured, cause i later found out i was pregnant, but it was like an extra week and a half after when i would have got my period did i show up positive that i was pregnant. unfortunately it ended in a m/c. I would say if you only lost it recently you probably wouldnt be pregnant, i would just use other protection, and not put in your nuva ring again until after you have your period. if you dont get it in another week you may want to take another hpt test. Like i said mine was a good week and a half after i was due for my period did i show up positive.
