Pot Smoking While Pregnant

This topic has come up a few times in the forum and I wanted to let you guys know that a new study has shown smoking pot CAN cause cancer. I just saw a blurp of it on the news but haven't done any research on it other than what I just saw on TV. If any of you come up with anything let me know. I'm still getting over some sort of cold/flu/allergy thing so I really need to get off of here. My eyes are watering really bad. Will catch up on this tomorrow!

Mary- no one in this forum is allowed to judge another and we all do offer support. This is the most pleasant pregnancy forum I've ever found on the Internet. What I am merely suggesting is that instead of *encouraging* women to smoke pot while pregnant (as we have done in the past) we must present FACTS so that she can make an informed decision. And we always do so in a pleasant way. I apologize if I came off a bit strong. I have a tendency to get passionate about something and get carried away.

Anything a woman consumes, inhales, applies to her skin, etc. IS passed to baby. And even if there aren't any studies to back it up, I have a strong feeling that it can and will affect a fetus, whether as a baby/newborn or when they're growing up. Everything has consequences.

I dont think there is any evidence that smoking majurana during pregnancy will damage the fetus (that I am aware of) but there is evidence that the person smoking could develop lung cancer.

Although I understand all of you and your feelings about smoking anything while pregnant, that is just your opinions and your personal choices.  If someone else doesn't make the same choice you do, is it up to you to judge?  I mean, i read that you are all saying you aren't here to judge, but all of your comments are pretty condemning and judgemental.  I'm not trying to stir anything up, I am just hoping you consider how your comments might come across to other women who don't have the same convictions or strength as you all.  There have been a lot of hurt feelings on this forum/board b/c women ask for advise and they get criticised(sp) or talked down to or yelled at by someone useing all caps.  It's not fair to them and it makes me sad for them.  No, I don't smoke anything, but I'm pretty sympathetic to their pain.  It's hard sometimes to read emotion through email or internet but, I'm just saying to consider the feelings of those who are pouring their hearts out to you for advise or help and instead of hurting their feelings and being so harsh, offer some support...even if you don't believe what they are doing is right.
Thanks!

Well next time you see someone asking if pot smoking is "safe" during pregnancy, definitely give them a HECK NO. I don't care if they're nauseous. There's other, less harmful things, they can take to help alleviate it under a doctor's guidance. My SIL threw up every single day of her three pregnancies and would never smoke pot.

My testimony has always been- my mom smoked while pregnant with me (cigarettes, not pot). Back then it wasn't a big deal. But I was completely innocent and now I'm at risk for SO MANY health problems that could lead to my death, and I didn't have a choice. It angers me. Especially as my mom died from CANCER.

I don't want other little babies to suffer at some point in their lives, whether it is in the womb or when they're older. It's just not fair.

Any material that is "inhaled" into the lungs can potentially cause lung cancer. Marijuana and cigarette smoke both can both result in lung cancer.  However, in terms of carcinogenicity, cigarettes are MUCH more potent than marijuana.

there was a time in college when it was fun to smoke pot because I didn't have any real responsibilities except study, party and go to the beach, but I grew out of it and now I really don't care for it.
However anything that you smoke that puts smoke and ashes in your lungs (even if is inhaling the charcoal grills fumes etc.) can cause cancer.
There are ways in which Marijuana can be consumed that will not cause cancer like using it in cooking or using a water bong which you will not be inhaling hot smoke.

I don't see nor understand why it would be good during pregnancy unless you are having severe nausea and no appetive and have the time and freedom to be mentally incapacitated.
I have to work for a living I don't have the time, need nor desire to not be able to use my brain, its just dumb.  I think that people that continue to smoke pot after college when you have real responsibilities are just useless dumb-*****, not worth a dime in a  productive society, but that goes for all drugs.

I feel the same why. I never understand when people try and justify their use of weed or pot or whatever word its called now. There is def not ANY safe drug. I have tried it when I was younger and couldn't understand the fascenation with it or why people needed to do this. I don't judge anyone but really can't understand people that are pregnant and use drugs and I never will understand it.

i'm also 100% marijuana. i'm against any drug really if it's not prescribed by a doc. (even then if you know you have a problem with drugs let your gp know! for the longest time i couldn't have any pain meds and the only time in the past 3 years i had any sort of pain med was when i went into labor and aside from the epi and the one time i did get the percs i refused the pain meds b/c i knew about my past with them...) and i honestly believe pot is the gateway drug.  i hate drugs. i've seen what they do to people and their families and i wish non of them had ever been created.

i'm dead against pot smoking. i used to smoke it years ago and it caused a psychosis with me. research since has proved that pot DOES cause psychosis and other mental health issues. it also kills brain cells at an alarming rate. they are finding out more about pot's negative effects all the time. it gets to me when people thin it's ' the safe drug'...there is no such thing.
