I lost my baby in the 18th week(Feb 3rd 2007). Doctor asked me to wait for three months. I did wait as she suggested. I did wait little longer too(husband travels on work a lot). Now I am pregnant again 6.5 weeks and struggling to save this baby.
Thank you both for your comments and warm wishes. I am also really sorry for your losses. That is the reason why I love this site. It gives me hope and a sense that I'm not alone. It is true that we can never forget our little angels. We carried them and loved them just the same. As we are pregnant and we feel the baby move we fall more in love with them, especially when it is a planned pregnancy. To answer babyhardiman's question, I found out about my incompetent cervix when I was pregnant with my daughter in 2000. It was my first pregnancy. I had a cerclage (which they sow the cervix) And I carried to term. I had a healthy 8 pounds 13 onces babygirl, that is now a big 7 year old. That is why for this pregnancy I kind of took it for granted. You see, when I was pregnant with my daughter I was much younger. It was unplanned, and lets just say that I didn't always follow Dr's orders. Now at 28, I followed to a T everything my Doc said. I ate right ect. When I got to my 18th week I was sure that everything was fine. I never dreamed that I would loose the baby. It was a total shock and even for a few days after that I would catch myself rubbing my belly, or even thinking that it was just a dream. I just really hope that I will be blessed again with another child soon. I have been getting some encouraging news about pregnancy right after a miscarriage. I just hope that I will be a success story too.
I am very sorry for your loss. I cried as I read your story. This same thing happened to my cousin at 19 weeks, she lost fluid but when she went in for the ultrasound they said that the baby still had enough amniotic fluid to continue. They put Terri on bedrest and told her NOT to do anything strenuous (sp?) which was extremely hard because she has a 6 and a 2 year old. They are bringing her back to check her levels. This happened just last week. The same day I went in for a check up because I was spotting. I have 3 cousins, a sister-n-law and a cousin by marriage, then me that are all pregnant right now and all due within 2 months of each other. Non of these pregnancies have gone smoothly. Being pregnant is a challenging time for women. There are soo many things that can go wrong.. little and big things. How do you know if your cervix is incompetent? I have a double uterus and a double cervix, so I have two cervixs. I am sooo worried about that. Sometimes the pressue "down there" scares me which I know now it is round ligament pains but they still scare the **** out of me. Even the charlie horse like pains that come with the ligaments stretching. If you have an active life, to me, it is hard to pin point what all these feelings are. I just can't get comfortable sometimes. I study, I research, I practice what I'm told, I eat healthy most of the time, and I take my vitamins daily, I follow the doctors orders to a T. I know in my heart I am doing what I can to protect my baby and I know you did the same.
I could not imagine going through what you did. I know it was a very tough decision for you to make. You will be in my mind and in my prayers. The baby would have suffered if you had not made that decision. You will be blessed with your little miracle just as you were blessed to carry this baby. They are all so precious. I still think of my little one that I lost almost 7 years ago. We can not forget them.
Sorry-You wrote your above message as I was writing mine, so ignore my questions. I cannot imagine how hard that must have been for you. I also had a "perfect pregnancy", and we went for our 20 week ultrasound, and still thought everything was fine, but the ultrasoundographer said there was no heartbeat, and the dr confirmed that our baby had died. We also had to have a "normal" labor and delivery after induction. Our little girl was smaller than she should have been, by about 2 weeks, however I know for sure she moved once a week before we had her.
Having your baby still be alive and having to give up the chance for him to grow must have been so incredibly heartbreaking. I feel for you.
I had a miscarriage (actually it was considered a stillbirth) at 20 weeks on Oct 5th. I go to the Dr this week for my follow up, and am anxious to when we can start trying again.
Just so you know, I can relate to you, this was my first pregnancy, and I miss my daughter SO much. We'll also find out at the Dr what, for sure, was wrong to cause this. They think Turner Syndrome, a chromosomal abnormality.
How long did it take you to get pregnant with your son? We tried to 9 months, I pray it is quicker this time!
Good luck!
Thank you all for your responses. I had what I thought was a "perfect pregnancy". I work in Radiology and because I had an incompetent cervix and a cerclage during my first pregnancy, I would get frequent Ultrasounds from friends at work. I had to change OBGYN's and when I went to see the new doc, she did a full check up. She also said that she wanted to check my cervicle lenght. 2 days later my water broke. And because I was only in the begining of my 18th week they said that I had to terminate my pregnancy. Because of the lack of amniotic fluids the baby would not have been able to grow and to develop his lungs. It was the hardest decision because it was technically an abortion. The baby was still alive in my stomach and I tried to hold on as much as I could. But because my water broke I was prone to infection. I had to have a normal vaginal delivery. Even though it was fairly recent, I still want to be pregnant now. It is too hard for me to wait for 2 or 3 periods. I do understand that I have a big chance of a miscarriage because I'm not waiting for my uterus to be strong. But it's a decision that I've made. I want a baby too badly.
So sorry to hear about your loss. I also have tried to find conclusive info on whether you should wait or not after a miscarriage. After my first miscarriage, I fell pregnant before my next periond even came. My second and third miscarriage were a year a part. The doc said to wait just to let your body and cycle get back to norm, which makes sense. He said there is no evidence that it is good or bad, either way. I have just found out I am pregnant, 4 months after the last miscarriage. However, because your loss was later on, it may be different - good luck finding info!
I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks on September 18, I am now a little over 5 weeks pregnant. I never did have a period between the pregnancies. My doctor said that there is no reason this pregnancy wont go well, in fact my beta #'s have been tripeling every 48 hours. Sorry to hear about your loss and good luck!
best to wait at least 2 cycles to avoid the repeat. better to wait than to miss it again. good luck they say the linning of the uterus needs to be strong.
What happened that you lost your baby at 18 weeks? I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm 17 weeks and scared that something could go wrong. Especially since I've told everyone that I'm pregnant. Dealing with m/c is so hard. I've had 3 in a row, all early, but they still plague my mind. You should be able to try again in a few months but I would wait for your doctor's go ahead.
i had a miscarriage back in june, mine was only at 8 1/2 weeks. because you miscarried so late, did your doc give you a reason why? i'm really sorry for your loss. thats horrible. i became pregnant again 3 months later. hpwever i did start trying again after 6 weeks. my doc said to wait till at least you have one norm cycle. my cousin also became pregnant after a miscarriage without getting a period first and she had a healthy baby girl. good luck to you and again i'm very sorry for your loss.
