have you spoke with your doctor? they can tell you what is best for you and the baby, some medications are worst then others so depending on what the doctors say they may be able to put you on something that is safe to be preganate with along with breastfeed your little one. good luck
First, I would advise you to speak with your doctor, and get his/her medical opinion. Your doctor will help you make the best informed decision. I am in the U.S. I have been using the fentanyl patch system for approx. 8 years for chronic pain. It's the only medication that helps me function, and lead a normal life. I am also pregnant, and plan to breastfeed as well. My OB is with the University of Michigan. We spoke of the risks before I conceived. His take was this - It is more risk for me to discontinue the patch, (my body would be under more stress from the pain), than it was to my baby. Initially, he said they would watch my baby for withdrawl symptoms after birth for a day or two, and things should be fine. However, since I want to nurse, my doctor explained this may be easier for the baby. When I wean my baby off nursing, the baby will wean off the little fentanyl in it's system. Before and during nursing, it's always a good idea to keep a close watch on baby. Look for slow suckling, or if the baby seems to be sedated from the concentration (as I do not know what dose your taking), or anything else that concerns you. Remember, always talk with your doctor first to get their medical opinion. Your're better able to make an informed decision with your doctors advice. Good luck to you.
