you can stay like that for weeks and many women do. they want you on bedrest because if you are up walking around the weight of the baby's head on your cervix can cause you to efface and dilate further. certain things like sex, walking, dehydration, etc can also bring about contractions so make sure you do not have sex and stay hydrated.
i was 50% effaced for 4 weeks before i had my daughter.
I was only 32 weeks 6 days when I found out I was 3 to 4cm dilated and 60% effaced. I am also on bed rest until 36 weeks (this Saturday!). I also lost my mucus plug a couple of days later so everyone (even my doc) was convinced I would have the baby very soon. Well I'm now 35 weeks 5 days and no regular contractions, no broken water, and still no baby. So it all depends on your body and if baby is ready to come.
However, the waiting and not knowing if any moment real labor could start is driving me CRAZY! That's the hardest part of bedrest...waiting.
I find out today if I'm any more dilated but I doubt it.
Good luck with everything! :)
You are right. You could be at that stage for weeks, but it is also possible that you could go quickly into actual labor (especially with your second baby) - there is no way to tell and the doctors probably do not want to take a chance that you go into labor now as the baby's lungs are not 100% until 36 weeks. So it is probably best to be on the safe side as painful as total bedrest is. Good luck.
It sounds like baby may want to come out sooner better safe than sorry. Bedrest is NO fun, so boring but hopefully the next two weeks will go by quickly. :)
Im 34 weeks so they want me to keep her in another for another 2 and then they'll take me off bed rest since if I deliver although it wouldnt be ideal still it would be ok.
How many weeks are you? I have no idea but usually they want you to get to 36wks before delivery if at all possible.
