Should a sac be visible at ultrasound if only 4 weeks from the date of conceiving???

My LMP was 1-13-10, I believe I conceived on 2-5-10, I have had some bleeding, went to ER, they sent me home saying it was possible miscarriage, I followed up with my DR. 3 days later he sent me for bloodwork, my HCG levels had almost doubled, from 144 to 276 , 2 days later he sent me for more bloodwork my Hcg was at 336, he referred me to Obgyn, she did a pelvic exam, which showed my cervix was closed so there was no miscarriage, but I am still bleeding, she sent me for a ultrasound the following day to see if it was Ectopic, the ultrasond showed nothing, my uterus is empty, but they did not find Ectopic no where either, she wants me to have more bloodwork done tomorrow, if my levels are still rising she wants to classify it as Ectopic, and wants me to take the injection to miscarry, I'm scared & uncomfortable with this????? I feel like they should see something somewhere before going taking this route. Could it be to early to see any the sac????? Need help please.....

It depends on the pregnancy how much you will see at the ultrasound. According to your LMP you should be about 6 weeks. It doesnt go by the day you think you conceived. But you may have also ovulated later than you think and that is why nothing is showing up. Also it could have taken longer for implantation to occur and you would be less than 6 wks even if they use LMP. But with that being said some women do not see anything at 6 weeks. And it is not normal for there to be a heartbeat at 6 weeks its usually after the 6 week mark. They did this to a friends of mine and the docs tried to get her to have a D&C at 6 weeks becase the could not find anything on the u/s at 6 weeks. she refused and they did another u/s at 8 weeks and they could see everything. She now has a little girl that will be one next month. So dont always listen to your doc.....they are not always right. Also your HCG levels are within normal limits......if you look at a chart normal limits are very broad and this is because every pregnancy is different. And especially if they are doubling then everything seems fine. Like Tarajanes said most ultrasounds wont show anything until HCG levels reach around 1000. Good luck and let us know what happens but I woul not get the shot yet.

You'd be about 6 weeks and by then your levels should be a higher and a baby should be visible. Is it possible you aren't as far along as you think?

I am 4 weeks along and I just had my first ultrasound.  They could see the sac and the forming of what will be the baby.  Looked like a little dot.  He said it was about a mm long.  My uterus on the ultrasound was not empty.

maybe you should request a 2nd ultrasound.  I wouldnt take the shot until all your questions are answered and you yourself are totally sure. Every question you are asking here you should most definiately ask your doctor!!!!

to me it sounds more like your 6 weeks according to the pregnancy calculation as it goes by the date of your last period and by 6 weeks onwards they can detect a heartbeat and HCG levels are higher. I would go to my doctor and ask them to explain how they come to the conclusion in relation to the testing you have had done.
good luck am thinking of you as i know not knowing is a scary time

At 4 weeks you wouldnt see a sac,at most you may see a little black spot, starting of sac.most definately no baby or sac yet, your levels seem ok so far.they are supposed to double i may be concerned that they didnt double from 276,but everyones levels rise differently.for 4 weeks.until they are at least over 1000 most doctors wont see anything here in the uk doctors say waste of time doing a scan until your levels are over 1000.although a good sonographer will.i wouldnt have any injection yet, leave it few weeks if your not bleeding or cramping then see what happens, best of luck.
