Smoking. :(

I am first time mommy and 23 weeks along. I'm having a really hard time quitting smoking. I want to so badly. Every time I try I get upset about something or stressed out and I cave in. Everyone in my house is a smoker and it just makes it ten times harder to quit. I dont need negative comments or rude remarks. I need tips and advice on what helped other moms quit smoking. Please help!

I know exactly what everyone is going through. Its probably the most difficult thing you can do is quit smoking. The day my husband and I found out we were pregnant, I quit cold turkey. My husband hated the fact that I smoked in the first place, he doesnt. Only when he drinks with friends, but usually he will only have one cig. I quit right away because I know its not good for the baby, and I wanna make sure that my baby gets every possible thing to start out with a good life. My husband and I had a hard time concieving, it took us almost a year to get pregnant. I still have cravings and I know they will never go away, but knowing my baby is healthy is all that I need to keep away from cigarettes. Trust me, you can stop. You all are in my prayers, good luck through everything.. stay strong:)<3

Im a smoker and im 1month and 1week into my pregnancy.... Im struggling too.... But i uest to smoke 20 ciggarettes a day but now ive cut down to 3 or less if i can.... I find chewing gum helps alot.... They say a craving lasts upto 5minutes if u can try to not give into that craving after 5 minutes then your craving will go away.... Just try your best... Thats all you can do.... I will eventually stop and im getting there im sure you can :) hope ive helped a little and hope all goes well for you i know its hard xx

I had the HARDEST time quitting!! Smoked all the way up until I was about 30 weeks and then my boyfriend kept getting really mad at me and basically made me feel terrible for smoking and told me I had no will power and just wouldn't let me smoke around him and I just decided I would prove him wrong and show him how strong I could be! I felt selfish for only being able to do it for that reason after months of trying to quit for my baby, but hey, whatever works and in the end you're getting the same outcome of baby being healthier! I would also like to add that my boyfriend didn't mean the things he said, he told me so after I quit that he only said it to get me to quit because he knows how stubborn I am! I smoked for 8 years, over a pack a day, and I've learned my will power is so strong that I can smoke one cigarette now when I'm really really stressed and not have another one or crave another one!!

I smoke before I got pregnant at my first and now at my second but the first time I found out that I was pregnant I quit right away. Im not really a smoker I probably smoke 5stick a day but my husband is. he quitted before at my first pregnancy but got devastating about my miscarried and go back to smoke again but now he is trying again its been 3days now he hasnt been smoking. Since the day he started quitting I always telling him I am so proud of him. Then he always told I wanna live longer for our baby and I dont want u and the baby have some complications coz u smells my smoke.

I know how hard to try not to smoke coz I can see it to my husband he always told me he always have craving, he said "I need a will power to fight the craving" I found that funny but im still here for him to support him no matter what. I know the craving make u gittery and get mad for no reason coz my husband is going thru the same and we always finding ourselves fighting, but after we ended up say our apology.

Keep urself busy and always think about ur baby. Be healthy as possible even though sometimes u cant help it.. do what is the best for u and ur baby. Tell your family not to smoke in front of u if possible. Gudluck to u and be healthy.

Im having the same issue im 5 weeks pregnant first child and im trying so hard to quit smoking.. So I looked up on the internet it says its better to cut down to 1-3 a day because its less stressful on you to cut down than to just quit.. So good luck(:

A lot of the times with quitting smoking its the feel of the cig in your hand and the motion...cut a strawin half and hold it in your fingers like a cig.

I smoked with my first two pregnancies and couldn't quit. I quit smoking about 3 months ago out of the blue and found out a week later I was pregnant. Do I want one? Hell yes! And if I could get my hands on one i would probably smoke it. But I try to keep spare change out of sight and I name all my money: gas money! lunch money! So on and so forth. Lol best keeps me from spending it on smokes. But yes I want one all the time! I have smoked since I was 13 and I am 24 now. It's hard!

I'm very surprised there aren't any negative comments on here yet! Some woman are really mean when it comes to these things i had a miscarriage with my first and i had quit smoking well with my daughter and my son i smoked the whole time and my daughter was 7 13oz and my son was 8 4 i cut way way back with this one bcuz my husband hates it but i got pregnant earlier than i was expecting and i had a drs appt scheduled for the first of February to get put on chantix cuz I've tried everything else as well and nothings helped but i got pregnant January13th so i couldn't take the chantix i had to wait for my blue cross yo start definitely cut back i barely even smoke 3 a day but i too get those terribly stressful days and have smoked 5 but no more than that and i don't smoke in the house i go outside bcuz of my kids and when they were first born i would put my hair up put this huge sweatshirt on to cover my whole body and after i came in i would wash my face hands and arms it was too much to do so even after they were born i barely smoked bcuz of all the work involved! I hope your able to do what you feel is necessary during your pregnancy :)

Cutting down is good, quitting is great but not always possible. Don't stress yourself about it dear. Some of our patients switched to those E-cigs, they still have the nicotine and oral habit satisfaction but not the icky chemicals, you can also get them nicotine free.

I know it's not easy, I quit just over a week ago and last night I went postal at the hubby, but bugger did I want a smoke. It's not an easy thing to do. I found the strength to quit because its taken us 4 years to fall pregnant with this one. I don't want to do anything to jeopardise it. As long as your making the effort good for you! I would deff be asking the other occupants of the house to try smoking outside though, might make things easier for you with the cutting down. Good luck and don't beat your self up or stress to much, because that is not good at all!

My doctor said that she doesnt recommend smoking but she says if I can cut down to only three a day then I would most likely do no harm to my baby. I hope to quit but cutting down to only three a day would be major for me. Other woman on here dont understand how hard it really is. For me personally smoking is a 5 min break from all the chaos. I really hope to find something that works for me soon. Thanks ladies!

You are brave posting this, people get so annoyed. But I know exactly what you are going through. With my first two pregnancies I quit smoking and done everything right,  but I miscarried. Not saying the smoking is to blame just thats what happened. This time I didnt even know until it were too late. All I did was cut down from 25-30 a day to about 10-15 a day. I struggled at first. But it does get easier. Now I can go hours without even thinking about it. Keeping your hands busy is important. So maybe try some crafts. And also chew gum or a sugar free lolly. I found that helped too. I did try all these things you can buy but none seemed to work for me. You could be different. I've now got 4 days until my due date, and having a scan as they think baby is too big! Not small which is what I were expecting. He is in brilliant health though. A lot of midwifes will tell you to try and quit but to cut down first. As withdrawals can be far worse for your baby.
Sorry about the really long reply. Hope it helps in some way. As I know some people can be VERY judgemental on here.  X
