I remember when I was on WIC with my son 15 yrs ago. My area WIC used to have Similac and Enfamil. I wish WIC here carried Enfamil cuz I'd switch him to that instead of switching to different formulas with every new formula can.
I can buy the RTF cans, but I don't like those as you have to make several bottles at once and use them within 24 hours. Those weren't affected by the recall. I'm looking for powder. Hopefully more powder will become available shortly.

That's so bizarre when I did WIC with my daughter, they only covered Nestle GoodStart. If you go to your doctor and get a note that your baby needs a different formula, WIC is required to cover it for you....so if you're having a lot of trouble with the Similac or with finding it, I would say that you should go to the pediatrician and request that they write you a note allowing you to switch formulas. I've always found GoodStart to be superior to Similac....my daughter couldn't stomach Similac, but both of my babies have done WONDERFULLY on the GoodStart Natural Cultures (which contains probiotics and is specifically formulated to build a healthy immune system.....of course they switched the name to GoodStart Protect Plus).
My daughter spit-up and choked and gagged on the Similac brands...but once we switched her to GoodStart she would only spit up a little after meals, no more reflux issues...and my son has been on it from the beginning and has had no issues either....so you may want to consider it :). My daughter has also only been sick once in her life and yes she got the colostrum from me but I truly think that the Natural Cultures did a good job with her immune system.
but even if you don't try GoodStart, just remember that you should be able to get a note from the ped approving a different formula with WIC (at least here).
Unfortunately, i wasn't able to get him to latch on to nurse as he was a preemie. So it was basically bottles from the beginning, although I did pump milk for the first 5 weeks.
Anyways.. after 2 feedings of the regular formula, he has no spit up or tummy troubles like he used to. However, he does have some pretty bad reflux issues and sometimes chokes and gags on his spit. So I'm stuck. Don't know what to do. He needs to see his pedi., but he has no insurance. I'm currently working on that and should hear back within the next week.
My poor baby :(

I know what you mean my area WIC only covers Similac also. I had my WIC apointment when Kaelynn was 3 days old and I was supplementing with formula until my milk supply was up enough to feed her only breastmilk.
The lady wouldn't even give me formula checks. I was so pissed. Luckly the hospital had given me an extra box of ready to feed bottles and it lasted the week I needed it.
Sometimes government services can be a pain to deal with.
This recall is aweful for everyone on WIC that only covers similac. Times like this I'm even more determined to keep up the pumping so my LO gets breastmilk only.
Good luck finding what you need
