I had a subchorionic hematoma at the beginning of my pregnancy. It caused me to gush blood almost every day for weeks. I heard that when you bleed its because its "emptying" however when you aren't bleeding andymore and just getting the dark blood when you wipe that is actually a good sign because it means your healing! It took me a while to get there because mine was so large. I have heard that subchorionic hematomas are actually quite common and if your doctor doesn't seem concerned than if I was you I wouldn't be either. My doctor was concerned when I bled as soon as it pretty much stopped happening frequently he wasn't as concerned. I know its hard and that you really really want to worry but honestly you should be fine! Best of luck keep us updated!
Thanks for your comments. It's comforting to know that I am not alone. Most everyone I have told (family, friends) have never heard of this. How far along are you? Hope all is going well.
Yeah no one I spoke to knew what it was either it was just from hounding my doctor and my sisters friend whos an obgyn that I got all the inforation I did. I'm 26 weeks along. When I had that first gush of blood I honestly thought it was all over... infact it took me a while even when I stopped bleeding to believe that everything would be okay. If I was you I would invest in a doppler like they use at the doctors office (about $100 if you get one off ebay) everytime I started to worry myself sick I would get it out (sometimes multiple times a day) just to make sure her heartbeat was strong and that she was still okay in there. If you need someone to talk to I'm here for you feel free to email me! :)
Hey ladies,
I am a wreck and was hoping you guys could give me some advice. My wife, 31 years old, will be 20 weeks pregnant this coming Wed. Needless to say they started the 20 week ultrasound about 2 weeks ago, when they discoverd three small hematomas. We are seeing one of the best high risk OB/GYN's in Westchester and at that time he said let's just wait and see. We went today to finish up that 20 week deal and the hematomas were still there, one apparently got slightly larger. Now our regular Dr wasn't in, we weren't actually supposed to see a DR at all, just the U/S Tech to finish up. After the U/S our Dr's partner wanted to take a look at my wife so he made her get back on the table and he did his own U/S. He pretty much scared us to death telling us that in his opinion my wife should stop working, she should just be resting, that 90% the time this won't be a problem, but not working and only resting will increase that to 95%, etc. He scared the **** out of us the way he was talking. The baby has been doing fine, and she still was today, heartbeat 143, and my wife,(knock on wood), has had absolutely no bleeding at all and feels fantastic. I plan on calling our Dr in the morning, having him look at the U/S pics, and discussing it with him. I was just wondering if any of you moms out there can offer some advice, maybe having been in this type of situation before. This our first baby and I'm sitting here at work a wreck of worry, and I'm sure my poor wife is at home doing the same thing. Thanks.

I am 20 weeks as well and have known about my hematoma since 13 weeks. Mine is pretty large 8cm x 7cm x 2xm. I'm a photographer and my Dr. has instructed me to cancel all my sessions and weddings and to sit on the couch and "watch lots and lots of Oprah". there are a lot of varying opinions about the value of bedrest but I thought this study was pretty convincing.....

Good Luck!
What ever happened w/ your hematoma in 2007. I have the same thing you did but now in 2009 and was wondering the result? Bleeding on the 12th week and nothing afterwards..large hematoma...grim on the outcome of this pregnancy...did you have better luck?
