Ask your doc about alternitive therapy such as chiropratic care. Many offer care specifically designed for pregnant women. Vicodin is a tricky one to pin down in pregnancy. There are few definitive results as far as safety. However, if Ob says ok, try alternating tylenol and maybe an NSAID like aleve...as opposed to the vicodin. there are many "natural" alternitives for back pain. Best of luck!
I went to the chiropractor today and feel much better. I'll be going 3-4 times a week to hopefully nip this back pain. I am confused though about the suggestion to take aleve. I was under the impression anything but tylenol was not okay. My doc made it seem like even taking ibuprofin was worse than taking the vicodin. Should I ask for tylenol 3 or is that bad too b/c it has codeine in it?
Also, does anyone know specific effects that vicodin has on the baby? I will just never forgive myself if something were to happen b/c of me taking that stupid medication! I've heard of addiction, but that's it.
Vicodin is a class B drug for pregnancy to date there are no studies that show harm to a fetus. That's the official answer I got from my ob when I found out I was pregnant. I had been taking it for a broken pelvis. I would suggest a combination of treatments from the chiropractor and prenatal massages. Best of luck and congrats.
Well I know back pain is a common pregnancy symptom and so the pregnancy could also be putting strain on your back (even this early!). I had back pain very early in my pregnancy because we were moving to a new house, packing, painting. So I understand the pain.
If it comes down to it, you might just have to go on bedrest. If vicodin could harm your baby, then you might have to make a sacrifice. But I don't know about vicodin. Your doctor really should give you more information.
