There are risks and benefits associated with ALL medications, and the FDA regularly investigates any reports to see if outcomes are associated with medications, or are caused by medications.  Risks are listed on the information you receive with the prescription, and we urge you to discuss any concerns with your doctor.

Additionally, keep in mind that dehydration is also a serious complication in pregnancy, so again, all risks and benefits should be considered.
Please research any recommended medications and to talk to your doctors before making any decisions rather than relying on info posted here and found via a Google search.

Did you take ANY medicine whatsoever throughout any of your pregnancies? ALL medicine you take could have a risk. Pregnant or not. There are commercials for hundreds of medicines that have been seen, but yet you choose to ignore it because that's what works for you. Do not judge because we take something that has more benefits for us. I know I'd personally rather take a zofran than to be throwing up nonstop and then being admitted into the hospital with IVs. I lost about 30 pounds because of my severe nausea and I've only gained 7 pounds. My son would not have survived if it wasn't for zofran. So, that alone was enough for me. So what if he is born with a birth defect? I wouldn't love him any less. Because he is MY son.
I'm not trying to sound rude. Just don't judge other women for what we do just because you don't approve. These are our babies. We care for them. We love them. We're only doing what we feel is best.

The next person that posts some ridiculous comment about how we mothers should think about the consequences of the meds we take have on our children really need to step back. I have taken Zofran during both of my pregnancies. I would do so again. Maybe YOU have never had true sickness during your pregnancy, but others have. I vomited all day everyday for nine months. I tried multiple medications just to try to have me and my child survive. I was hospitalized multiple times and lost over 15 lbs in 2 weeks while attempting several medications to keep my nausea down enough so I could keep hydrated. Finally I was put on  PICC line with TPN and was on 3 different nausea medications. My daughter is healthy l, happy, and ALIVE.
Zofran is no miracle drug, but if it helps a mother to stay less nauseated enough to keep her and her child hydrated and fed enough to survive through the pregnancy by all means take it. This foolishness that is being spouted is not proven and is only hurting mothers that are trying to do what is right for their children.

I am amazed how some of the comments by the women here.  I can't believe anyone would risk the life of their unborn child for their comfort knowing there is a possibility of side effects.  The side effects are devastating for the baby.  My granddaughter was born with several life long issues including:
• Jaundice
• High muscle tone
• Stridor --------- Laryngomalacia --- aspiration
• NG Tube - G-Tube -- GJ-Tube
• Heart murmur
• Stroke
• Vision problems
• Speech delay
• Hyperpigmentation
• Cerebral Palsy with resultant hemiplegia
• Learning disabilities in school
• Permanent lung damage

My daughter-in-law trusted her doctors when taking the medicine orally and through a pump.  Although she has been blessed with a beautiful baby girl, her baby girl now 7, will struggle the rest of her life.  So go ahead, take the medicine because you are nauseous... risk your child's life.  I pray it nothing happens to your child but if it does... know you contributed to it willingly.

I had a friend who took Zofran and just had her son with a cleft palate yesterday. The doctors never told her at her ultrasounds, and when she asked the reason of what could've caused it, he said it was due to a gallbladder surgery she had earlier in her pregnancy. Don't know how your gallbladder would do that, but whatever. Made me upset. He's a beautiful, healthy boy besides his lip.

I read in a past post that a batch of Zofran was recalled. But that's all I know. It's not ALL Zofran.

Ive been on zofran since the beginning of my pregnancy and am 33 weeks now and my daughter is perfect. Ive been on all three types (dissolving, regular pill, and an iv drip) and it was all safe

You dont drink zofran lol. Its pill form and iv medication. And it is also rated as a class b drug by the FDA. Meaning there is no valid research that backs up that it is unsafe for use in pregnancy. Those commercials are ridiculous. Sure there are rare cases where a medication is suspected of causing problems but like I said before, not proven and is a class b drug and only available by a doctors prescription.
