I'm anemic as well. I was prescribed iron and colace (for the constipation associated with iron pills), however, they were too hard on my stomach and made me vomit every day for 5 days (I'm 35 wks) until the doctor decided to take me off for a little. I don't think they harm your baby or the doctor wouldn't have prescribed them! :) Good luck!

She didn't prescribe them she have me samples and from there I can choose the one I like. But by me being anemic can that harm the baby?? I'm just really paranoid. Never been anemic before and being anemic while pregnant has me stressing...

I'm anemic too lol I take 65mg of iron a day on top of the 28mg thats in my prenatal :-) my doc didn't want me to take any stool softeners though :-(  just said to drink half a glass of prune juice a day.  Plus I'm on bed rest.  Fun lol.  It's not too uncommon to be  somewhat anemic during pregnancy I hear though :-)  iron is completely safe for baby btw, you need it to function properly!

I haven't been to doctor yet but I was anemic before I got prego. I already take an iron supplement, stool softner, and b12 shoots. My pc said to continue taking my iron and prenatals. Your body needs iron and so does the baby's. Being anemic can make you extremly tired, dizzy, etc, same as neing prego so you get it double if you don't keep your levels up. Too much is bad for you, buy your doctor knows what mg to give you.

I'm anemic too. I was anemic during my pregnancy with my son too. However iron supplements make me incredibly nauseous. There are some more natural ways to get the iron needed to help increase it. There is a liquid that can be blended into juice called Floradix, you can find it at health food stores and online. I have some ordered and hopefully that will help. Also leafy greens are high in iron and some cereals are fortified to be higher in iron. The big concern my dr has is that I am having a repeat c section so he wants to make sure that I have enough iron to not have to worry about be during surgery.
