birthing center vs. hospital?

I am 13 weeks pregnant with my first. I am interested in having a natural birth (and maybe doing most of my labor in water), however, I have never  delivered a child before. I have watched multiple videos of births and I am convinced that taking certain measures during labor and delivery help with pain but ,also, might fog the amazing experience of bringing a baby into the world. I have heard many horror stories and I have heard mothers say they wish they had delivered naturally and at a birthing center. I know all pregnancies and women are different. My doctor has told me , so far, everything is healthy and normal for my baby and I. I just worry about something going wrong and the birthing center where I live is not connected to a hospital or near one. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for wanting a natural birth or at least trying depending on my later situation. It's like women frown upon birthing centers here. Feeling like an odd wheel out.

The only time a birth center or home birth is more dangerous than a hospital is in am emergency. Otherwise home type births are safer because you use fewer interventions. Hospitals are equipped to handle the emergencies that can arise but often tend to forget that normal birth isn't an emergency.
I interviewed the midwife that runs the birth center in our area and many of the home births too. She's assisted in the births of over 2000 babies in her time as a midwife and has yet to lose a mama. (A few babies died or were stillborn). I really want to deliver there but it doesn't feel right for some reason this time so we're going to deliver at the hospital with my midwife. But if we have another we're going to the birth center! (Or maybe staying home!)

I'm a first time mom and having a home water birth.  My family is so scared of it and thinks im gonna die. But they don't know anything about it at all so they really are getting scared for no reason.  My mother in law had her first at a birth center and 8 home births after,  twice with twins I might add lol. If you and the baby are healthy then there is nothing wrong with a birth center :) you can do it! And they will be able to tell if somethingcomes up and they need to trtransfer to a hospital.
