Maybe if the doc can't see the "sex" then it means its a girl! Try drinking something sugary next time you go, that'll make the baby move

Sorry to hear that.. I had my u/s at 20wks. Not even after 5 minutes she told me what it was, and even showed me herself that it was a boy. Everyone that was in the room with me seen the "parts" lol.... But I also heard that most of the time when they can't tell u what it is, is because its a girl, girls are a lot harder to detect. So keep that in mind.  And they also arnt aloud to say anything at all unless they are over 60% sure.  I even asked my doctor if she was 100% positive, and she said she can't say that. And I was thinking how can you not when you just plainly seen a Penis right there and showed it to me myself. u know.. but I hope you find all the answers your looking for

I agree with limonada.  The larger the baby the harder it is for s/he to move so it very well may be just the baby not cooperating.  Aside from that, even if they were to tell you a gender there is no gaurantee they would be 100% accurate.  I recently met a couple who was told they were expecting a boy several times....well SHE was born to a room full of wonderful boy stuff.

And just to comment on what the other poster said.....amnio would give you a 100%  confirmation of the gender, but it also carries risks - at any time during the pregnancy.  And I'm not even sure that they would do one solely to determine gender....typically there's another diagnostic purpose (ie. prenatal screening for disorders, etc.)

I've only had 2 u/s - the first at 12 weeks and the second at 19 weeks.  At our 19 week ultrasound, the tech was unable to determine the gender of our baby, despite about 45 minutes of looking.  I don't attribute it to her inexpertise - the baby simply wasn't cooperating.

While I can see why, especially after having weekly scans, I can see why you'd be frustrated at still not knowing the gender, I think that it would be harder to tell at the stage you're at now:  even though the baby is bigger (and, therefore, the genatalia should also be bigger), the baby will be in tighter quarters and not as able to move freely.

You know, I was disappointed at not being able to know the gender beforehand this time at first.  And now, especially that I'm 39 weeks and getting SO CLOSE, I embrace this for what it is:  a really wonderful surprise!

If you really cannot wait to find out, then I hope that you get your wish!  But as someone who will end up with 2 surprises - we chose not to find out the gender when we were expecting our first child - I can tell you that it is definitely well worth the wait :-)

Good luck!!!

That's weird that even with an u/s every month they still can't determine the sex, unless the baby is always blocking the view by crossing its legs! It should be really easy to see at this stage. Even at 19 weeks for me, the u/s technician could see the gender for me, but they wouldn't tell me until I was past 20 wks! I really want to know the sex as well, but I don't have another u/s scheduled and I don't want to pay extra to find out. The only other sure method of finding out is by amniocentesis, but I'm not sure that's safe at this stage in your pregnancy. I'm at 32 wks now. As long as baby's healthy, that's the main concern.
