cervix being soft at 16 weeks.

I was washing today and noticed my cervix is really soft. Is this normal? (I do go to the dr on monday but hes not such a good doctor and wont just check things out unless there is a problem.)

I dont think there is a problem. I havnet been having bleeding or heavy discharge or anything. I just happened to notice it was rather squishy.
Thanks a bunch!

i personally do not think theres anything wrong with touching your cervix when your pregnant..maybe not all the time but every once in awhile i think is okay. as long as you're sure you haven't had a fluid leakage or lost your mucous plug. i did a self examination and actually determined that my cervix was not completely closed..it was a big scare that led to a trip to labor and delivery. and i actually ended up being right, i was at what they call q tip dilation. anyways, i told them i checked it myself, and they never once told me i shouldn't do that. so i think if it was a big deal then they would tell you. your mucous plug is there to prevent bacteria from getting into your uterus. and if you can reach your cervix with your hand, then you can be sure that your bf/df/dh 's penis is touching it too during sex. if i were you i would call your doctor or wait till your appointment and bring it up then. i don't know how to tell if it is soft, but i do know how to tell if it's open..but if you can tell and are concerned then it wouldn't hurt to have it checked...what are they gonna do ? either determine there is a problem and stop premature labor or tell you its okay, be real nice about it, and send you home.

If its so bad to touch it (not jab at it or anything like that, just touch) then why is sex still ok?

Yes no touching as that can change the flora inside and can cause premature rupture of membranes. I had lots of trouble with premature labor and was checked so many times by my OB and the hospital that it caused premature rupture of membranes. THey check your cervix now by ultrasound which does nto have to feel inside for dialation nor does it actually touch and put pressure on yoru cervix! Also I would nto wash up in there cause you do not want to wash out the good mucus that comes heavier in pregnancy to keep infection out! Your cervix will be softer during pregnancy and if you have contractions, bleed, or have pressure then you want to get checked by ultrasound. Or if you have a gut instinct that something is wrong, Other then that I am sure all is fine!!

I agree with tarajanes.  You should not be self examining your cervix during pregnancy - this can lead to infection and irritation and also unwarranted concern because your interpretation of the state of your cervix is likely far from that which a trained professional would consider to be the case.

Not sure on that one.,I would advise against touching your cervix during pregnancy, really isnt any need too.unless your bleeding or cramping then I wouldnt worry.last thing you would want is to cause any irratation up there.
