constipation/tummy troubles!

I am 16 weeks pregnant and ever since I got pregnant, I have had constipation issues. My doctor has me taking 1 colace in the morning and 1 in the evening, plus I add fiber to my water and eat very balanced. The colace is helping, but not as much as it should. I have been able to go everyday but it's rather small (sorry) Every couple of days when I do go, I get terrible cramping afterwards and my whole abdomen (insides) is sore. I am a wits end. I feel like ****! Literally lol! My next appointment is Friday so I am going to talk with my doctor about this but I was wondering if anyone else is going through this and do they have any helpful hints?? I can't deal with this anymore!!!! Thanks ladies.

I take 2 stool softners a day! I think my issues have something to do with my digestion, not the way I eat. I pretty much follow the book with eating healthy. I don't know what else to do. I am seeing my doctor today so hopefully she can come up with a better solution.

My first 2 1/2 months was real bad with constipation, then I started eating more and eating healthier insted of always eating out I was eating at home, lots of fruits and food with fiber. That helped me. and now I am going to the bathroom more than once...

Well, I am glad I am not the only one this happens too. I was beginning to think there was something seriously wrong with me. I hope we can all feel better soon!

I am going to ask for new prenatals. I drink tons of water, eat tons of fruit, vegies, fiber, etc! I eat so much of it that a non-pregnant women would have diarhea! The stool softners help a little but I mean a little!! Hopefully it is my prenatals and we could change them, but I do know my porenatals have a stool softner in them. So we will see......

Yes, I talked to the doctor today, because I have not been able to go in 3 days. They gave me a stool softener prescription and new pre natels to try.

Are you making sure to stay hydrated? I am a huge water drinker, but since I have been pregnant for some reason drinking too much makes me gag. It really helped me to add limes or lemons. IF not that, try to get plenty of fluids in other sources such as fresh fruit and leafy green vegetables.

Try soybeans. They work like a charm.

Instead of prune juice, you could try pure apple juice (not from concentrate). It's hard to find, but it's worth it! It helps my niece who has severe bowel issues and constipation.

I had severe constipation with my first child, and my doctor changed my prenatal vitamins, told me to eat whole grain breads, cereals etc, and within a week, I was back to normal. They had me on a prenatal plus, and switched me to something that wasnt so strong. I can't remember what they said I was getting too much of, but it may help to ask your doctor about your vitamins....Good luck

I used to use a standard stool softener (Target brand stool softener)... not sure if that is the same thing as colace?  I took one before bedtime and it was a miracle drug!

Good luck.

I tried the prune juice and I got diarhea!!! That was even worse! I do eat tons of fruit and dried prunes everyday. I guess I could try the shredded wheat..... My doctor earlier on told me if the colace doesn't work she is going to send me to a specialist??? ugh.... Thanks for the suggestions though!

What about the Metamucil capsules, aren't they just psyllium (a natural grain)? Those work really well, BUT I'M NOT SURE if it's okay for pregnant women, although I don't see why not. They're pretty awesome, my fiancee uses them as a fiber supplement.
