constipation

hi everyone,

this will probably by TMI but i need anyones help and advice.

So i am any where between 4-6 weeks pregnant, will know exactly on 1/31, but anyways since i fouund out i was pregnant i had been having BM's at least 3-4 times a day which is excessive for me.  Now starting yesterday i only had 1 and started having some pains last night which are pretty bad constipation pains today and i still have not gone yet.  Any suggestions of things to eat, drink, medicines etc to make me go to get rid of this gassy bloaty constiapted pain?

OMG, I wish I was more constipated, I go like 3 times a day...I eat a lot of whole wheat bread and Kashi cereal. Metamucil is really good too. My fiancee has to take that because he gets really bad hemmeroids (TMI) : )

I LOVE dried prunes (they taste like candy to me!). Also, drinking TreeTop 100% Pure Apple Juice (NO concentrate) will clear you out fast.

Michele was spot on about the prenatals and iron.

Just eat lots of fiber! Ask your doc if you can use Metamucil (that's the fiber one, right?) to use in foods and drinks to help you out.

Just eat lots of fiber such as vegetables and fruits.  I really like the Raisin Bran Crunch cereal.  It helps a lot and it's really good; much better than the regular I think.  I get really constipated in early pregnancy also.  You can also take stool softeners.  Have you seen your doc yet and are you currently taking the prenatal vitamins?  My doctor prescribes vitamins for me with a gentle stool softener in them.  The extra iron on the prenatal vitamins will cause the constipation.  If you need to know what stool softeners are safe, let me know and I will cut and paste that for you.  My doc has a page on his web site that tells what medications are safe during pregnancy.  Take care and I hope you feel better soon.  I know how painful it is.
