Its really dangerous and unhygienic to test your own cervix. You risk passing an infection onto your baby, even if you wash your hands prior to doing it. The doctors and nurses who do it are highly trained in it, and it is always carried out in a sterile environment as it is an invasive procedure.  And babydue is right, the doctors over here in the good old UK will never check you until you reach your due date, which is quite right - you are given a due date for a season so why try to force things along before your baby is due to come. Unless there is medical necessity, they won't examine you til your due date has been reached, and won't induce you until you are 10-12 days over due. I don't understand docs who start checking at 34 weeks, i mean what is the point, you still have 6-8 weeks left at 34w which means baby is far from being fully developed, why try to hurry it along. Yes the end of pregnancy *****, you look like a whale, walk like a penguin, the nausea and lethargy return with a vengeance... But who ever said that being pregnant and growing another life was easy.

Depends on what your doctor says :/ some women get induced at 40+1 and some at 42 weeks. If I make it I'll be induced at 41+4

i really have no idea why she isnt checking me. all they do is take my blood pressure weight, make me pee in a.cup, measure my belly, and listen to babys heartbeat.

It isn't safe to check yourself. You could get an infection or end up hurting yourself.. Your doctor should have been checking you for a few weeks now though.. Do you know why he/she hasn't?

I wouldn't cause there's a risk for infection. You can either ask your doctor to check you or you'll find out if you go into labor lol
