hi my girl friend is pregnant and just been called back to the hospital after 13 weeks and told that we have a 1 in 235 chance that our baby is downs. i am totally frecked out. this is my 1st child but my girlfriends 2nd. my partner is 33.
we have been told to go back to the hospital tuesday to speck about what to do next.
i have heard from mid wife that there is a 1 in 100 chance my partner could miscarriage if we opt for the injection thing to take fluid from the baby anemio or something cant spell it.
i am really thinking of going for it. even tho id admire everyone that brings up kids with downs i really dont think i could  i just dont know what to do.

Those tests often give false positives. There's great chance the baby is perfectly healthy and normal.

Milesy11~ a 1:235 chance for a child with DS is a VERY good chance your baby WONT have it!

also, it's really your girlfriends decision for the amnio... I think, PERSONALLY in your case, the chance for a M/C is greater than the chance for a baby with D/S

I speak from personal experience. I'm 22 yrs old and have a 10 month old son with down syndrome. I had an amnio at 16 weeks with him.

I was also told the same thing and opted for the amnio and now I have a very healthy 2 year old running around. It sounds like you need to do whatever you think is right for you and your partner. An amnio is the only way to rule out down syndrome.
