menstrual like cramps

I am 35 weeks tomorrow with baby #1. Been having menstrual like cramps in my lower back and lower belly/pelvic area.  It started not last night, but the night before. Occasionally it gets painful and sharp pains spread up towards my belly button. When they aren't the sharp pains that go up higher, it's just a dull ache like the period cramps. But the cramps have been pretty constant for the past hour or so. I know I'm not in labor yet, but could this the beginning signs? I know I still have to lose the mucous plug and all that, but did anyone else have these cramps b4 going into labor?

The sharp pains aren't constant. They've only happened about.. 6 times in 3 days.. but the dull ache in my lower back and pelvic area are pretty constant. It's like an annoying ache, not really painful. Feels just like a heavy period about to start. I'm also super tired today! I could probably fall back also sleep again for the 4th time!

Yes those would be contractions. Of their consistamt I'd go in because you're so early. And not everyone loses their mucus plug sometimes that doesn't happen until they break your water.
