preeclampsia

If you're not dilated or effaced by the time they decide to induce you, do you have to get a c-section?

Yes this is my first. And my blood pressure has been high since I was diagnosed with my kidney disease at age 9, but I've retained over 8lbs of fluid in 3 weeks and that along with the headaches and my blood pressure they just decided to go ahead and diagnose me with preeclampsia.

Lol try coffee. It has the caffeine but not the suger. It the caffeine that causes withdrawls. I hate coffee, but tried my best to stomach it for josh Jr's sake. I you prefer tea, that's another great alternative. And chocolate. It has caffeine and causes your body to release dopamine (sp?). All he more reason to eat it! Lol

Well if it makes you feel any better, unless it's an extreme emergency, they wont induce until at least 34 weeks. That's when his lungs will be fully developed to breath on their own.

I remember reading that you love sinking cokes. You should try cutting down because they contain 4 tablespoons of salt per can. A huge influence on your blood pressure. If you can kept it down at you appointmnts, they may let you go a bit longer for baby's sake. I cut down to one can every 2 days from about 3-4 cans a day. That's how I got away with going to 37+2 lol

Thanks! They didn't tell me any of this. All they told me was they're going to measure his growth every 2 weeks on ultrasound, and as soon as I hit 36 weeks, or until he's big enough, whichever is sooner, then they're going to take him.

He was 5lb5.6oz at birth. Small to some, but right on the edge of normal. Normal for me though, as his father and I were both small. I was 6lbs2oz and his dad was 4lbs3oz. He didn't spend any time in the NICU and came home that Friday. If you have preeclampsia, they keep you in the hospital 48 hours after birth to monitor your health so be prepared for a long stay. We were there 4 nights.

I had preeclampsia with my son. I went to 37+2 before they induced me. I was dialated 1.5cm and only 30% thinned. They started my induction at 5pm on Monday and had me hooked up to an IV the whole time as it reduces the risk of seizures. They kept giving me pills to dialate me further until 11am Wednesday. I had only dialated to 4 by then, so they broke my water. Things went quickly then and I gave birth at 3:38pm.

At 34 weeks, I was at 1cm and 36 I was at 1.5cm. Stayed there until induction. If you have braxton hicks, they do help dialate you. Many women start dialating before they ever check so it may happen without you realizing it.

Good luck! Looks like we wont be delivering as close together as we thought! Lol

Yes and a pre-existing kidney disease and that along with preeclampsia makes it extremely dangerous for me to go to full term :(

I'm just so worried because they're talking about inducing me at 36 weeks and I highly doubt I'll be dilated by that time and a section is literally my worst fear in the world.

No they use cervadil or another drug to ripen the cervix, then they start labor. With pitocin.

I was only 50% effaced so they put this thin paper like thing into my cervix and had me bedrest for 12 hours to thin it out. I was only 2-3 cm dialated so after the 12 hours they gave me a pitocin drip through an IV for a couple hours, I dialated to a 4 after all that time. So the doctor broke my water and waited a couple hours. Still no improvement so I had to have a c section at that point.
