pushed into meds during labor

My daughter was born May 16 2012. My water broke on its own at 36 weeks 6 days I got to the hospital and when I was officially admitted the nurse made me get potossin (if that's how you spell it! Lol) scared me to death and told me if I didn't I would have a dry birth!
I know this nurse lied to me now!!! How long can labor go on until they should properly recommend any meds?
I am 5 weeks with baby #2 :) live in a different area now, so different dr and hospital! What reason would they HAVE TO give me potossin?

I think they administer that when they can see labor would not be starting anytime soon. Maybe because your water had already broken they didn't want to leave it too long.

She said it was pitocin that she wanted my contractions regular.and stronger so I wouldn't be in labor over 24 hours and have a dry birth.

Did they say it was pitocin? Or was it just the bag of electrolytes? Because you need that or it would be a "dry delivery"

I was only in labor a hour at the most when the nurse told me I had to have it!!!
I did not want any meds at all!  Before the meds I was feeling great didn't want a epidural or nothing,  but I ended up getting a epidural because the pitocin made my contractions horrible!

Pitocin is used to speed up contractions, its not like a pain killer or anything
