tubes tied

I am 23 and getting my tubes tied after this pregnancy. I have my reasons, and would rather not discuss. However, do you know anyone that has their tubes tied? How were periods? Was their weight gain? Were they still able to breastfeed? Anything weird happen?

Kudos to you girly , imma going to plan on getting my tubes tied after I have my son the next month or so hopefully! I will be 21 by then(: my doctor said that she would do it! It's a hard decision but sooo worth it. I'm glad that I am not alone . I swear one child was enough for me but now that I have my boy & my girl , I am COMPLETE!!! & I also have my reasons. This was a wonderful choice

My mother got hers tied at 24 after she had my brother. No complications and life went on normally. My parents had decided that 2 kids were enough. Good luck on your current pregnancy, and any future adoptions you wish to do. :)

My mom got hers done, but not until she was 35? And very small chance she would get pregnant anyway...I know I'm really young for this...and I appreciate the stories a lot. Thank you for making me feel better

That sounds scary, being pregnant after they were tied...ugh. He said they would tie\burn them. Low chance of being pregnant again....but that would scare me

my mom got hers tied after she had her ninth kid (me) and breastfed me for 4 years and didn't seem to have issues. I've heard of women who sometimes get there tubes tied and they eventually untie and get pregnant again not knowing that they came undone

My mom had hers done and no issues, my sister in law just got hers done last year and says she has pain when she has her period and never has before. She acted like the pain was horrible but everyone is different you may not have any problems.

My Dr told me the last time I was pregnant I should get my tubes tied. He said another pregnancy would risk my life but we had five girls and my husband wanted a boy. I am being very careful this time around and am now on bed rest for different reasons. If you think it is the best thing for you then you should go with your gut and at least you have the support of your husband. Good luck.

ashes,  I sort of sense there are people in your life who are trying to make you feel bad about this decision.  Frankly,  when you posted this I thought I don't know any doctors who will do an elective tubal on a 23 year old who is healthy and can do more pregnancies.

But since that's not the case here,  and you have health issues that determine you shouldn't be pregnant again,  sounds like this is a wise decision and I doubt you will regret it.

Best wishes.

Most states will do as long as you are over 21 and have more than one child. Honey hope it works out. If it is what is best for you listen to doc hubby and yiur heart.

My cousin had her tubes tied after her 3rd child. She said recovery was easy. She didn't notice anything different she felt back to normal after recovery. Periods stayed the same. She wasn't super skinny before getting her tubes tied and she never noticed weight gain. But even though she had her tubes tied she ended up pregnant again with her 4th child almost a year later. I don't know if your doctor mentioned that there is still that possible chance. But I also love your idea to adopt. I hope everything works out for you and your husband and congrats on your baby girl :)

I think you're feeling like you are being judged when you are in fact not being judged. And even if you didnt want more children thats nobodies business. You don't need to explain your situation to anyone as you stated you didn't want to in the begining. You asked for experiences though and that's what everyone is giving you. Everyones personal feelings and outcomes are different.

Thanks Katie. I feel like you ladies think I don't want children, I want a lot of children, but "complications" have made it so my doctor suggested I get my tubes tied. I discussed with my husband and then agreed it was best for our situation. I'm not looking to be guilted to think I'm making a bad decision, because I have given it tremendous thought and I know it is the right one to make.

I'm more than willing to adopt more children down the road. I love kids. I grew up in a huge family and have wanted nothing more than that my whole life, but sometimes reality changes what you want.

My mom got hers tied after the c section she had with my sisters (twins) She breastfed just fine and her recovery didn't seem to be that long or stall her from doing what she needed to as a mother. There were 3 of us before the twins and she cared for us no differently than before her tube tying. I know she blames her weight on them being tied, but im unsure if thats at all true or not. Best of luck, I'm wanting my husband to get fixed after this pregnancy but we're young too and this is our only. So it maybe hard to convince a doc to do it. Good luck.

I like your thoughts on adoption! There definitely are plenty of children in the world that need a home

I know somebody whos had it done. Not to many changes other than heavier periods. But she did end up regreting it years later when wanting another child.

Well, I'm already married, have been for 4 years, and I already have a son and am pregnant with a daughter. I will not regret this and if I want more kids I'll adopt. I really appreciate the experiences though. I'm glad to know that recovery will be simple and life will go on unchanged. Thanks ladies

I h know someone who had her tubes tied at 21.. she had 1 kid, then an abortion,  thengot pregnant again shortly after the abortion. her mom raises that kid.. they tied her tubes..not sure if they were reluctant to or not,  she's got a bit of a temper so im sure she raised hell if they tried telling her no at first... she doesn't regret it as far as I know, but being so young, she may regret it later on in life when she wants a family with her future husband
