Not sure, you'd have to ask your doctor. I know that a tampon isn't supposed to cause issues if a woman uses it and is a virgin. But it really depends, the act of getting fingered may be enough to tear the hymen membrane or "virginity"....

Youd really have to ask your doctor.

Nuvaring was not uncomfortable for me either, I didn't even notice it and I think my hubby only noticed it 1x when he bumped it funny and it didn't bother him at all since it's soft.

I suggest the nuvaring! Works great and you don't have to worry about taking a pill every day at the same time.

Yes, definitely make sure you speak your mind and your opinions to the doctor even if she is in the room.  She needs to hear you; it's your body and from what I am reading on this forum, sounds like the majority of the folks replying say the depo shot is terrible.

Depending on your age, by law your mom cannot be in the room if you ask to be alone with the doctor. And your doctor has something called "doctor-patient confidentiality" and HIPPA laws that prevent him from even discussing anything with your mom without your permission.

She cannot force you to do anything. It is your body. I also understand, from the mother perspective, how concerned she is for you. Ultimately what she wants is best. I don't agree with her tactics and threats, but I do understand her heart.

Good suggestion!! I agree!

Could I add another suggestion based on your though???... If her mom is anything like mine was (my mom grounded and guilt tripped over EVERYTHING, the more involved "mother daugher" type stuff the worse it was)... I'd tell the doctor before her mom comes in the room that I REALLY would prefer the patch, and ask the doctor if he/she could mainly offer THAT instead of the shot when mom comes in to talk and to not mention anything about asking for the patch instead of the shot.

Just ask to have the patch or another option OTHER than shot offered.....That way her mom just thinks that the doctor thinks it's not the best option as well. ..

So tell the doctor that you want your Mom out of the room while you have your pap, and then invite her in afterwards for any "discussions".  But before, you bring her back in, tell the doctor that you want the patch (or whatever else) and let her think the doctor already gave her the shot.  I understand that Moms can create control over their teens (I have had two girls, so I understand both sides), but this issue really is between you and your doctor.

thanks for all your help. but i know my mom is very set on the depo but i will talk to my doctor who ever, cause i know i really dont want it.

and i know i can tell my doctor i dont want her in the room but she will get mad and upset and later ground me or give me the guilt trip, so ya.

i know being grounded is not the end the world, i dont really care about taht its just for a dumb reason.

and im pretty sure when i go to talk about birth control i will get a blood test cause my mom said im getting a full check up.

also i have had the shots for HPV

I got put on birth control when I was 14. My GYN gave me options, as I'm sure yours will. From my experience, the patch was the best option. I loved it! The length of my menstrual cycles were cut in half. They went from 7 days to 3 to 4 days. I had much less cramping and they weren't as heavy. My acne cleared up and I didn't have horrible migraines before af. It's called Ortho Evra and I did not gain any weight on it. I actually lost a couple pounds. Last year I got stupid and decided I wanted to try the Implant, Implanon. It was by far the biggest mistake I have made. I gained forty pounds, I turned into a pizza face, and I started having bad cramps. The first month I actually had two periods. I bled when they put it in. You have to be on your period so that they can ensure that you aren't pregnant. Two weeks later, I had another period. After that, I had continual spotting for three months. My liver enzymes were elevated and I just felt crappy. They took it out and I gradually began to feel better! She put me on Orth Tricyclen because I could get it at walmart for ten bucks a month, and it was okay. I think I took one months worth because My husband and I decided to try for a baby. Since then, It has been difficult to conceive because my body is trying to get used to not having the birth control.

If I were going to go back on bc I would choose to go back to the patch that I would change once a week, or use the nuvaring.

Riot~ other than the shot making you hungry, the amt of hormones in it affects your body chemistry to make it think it's pregnant, which then makes your body hold on to the calories you DO eat. I asked a couple different doctors when I was on it because even on diet and excercise I couldn't stop gaining weight, AND I couldn't lose weight (3-4months of excercise/diet 2hrs a night 5 nights a week), I also experienced morning sickness type symptoms, and extreme bloating and stuff.

Other posters are correct, Most doctors will NOT put mirena in until youve had at least 1 child possibly two. the reason is it's got the same risks as an IUD, of porforation or poking through your uterus wall, OR being expelled since your uterus has never been stretched out from pregnancy so it's too small in there.

As for the pap smear, Joy's right it tests for HPV, so if you haven't begun it already you need to get that HPV Vaccination ASAP. It's a round of several shots, you get one, then a month or so later another, then I think 6 months later another. I only had the first so I don't remember the time line. You need blood work to test for STD's

if you DO have an STD there's nothing your mom can do to you other than what, ground you? lol. It might seem like the end of the world to get grounded and get stuff taken, but it's not. Your mom just wants you to be safe/healthy!

You'd need it treated AS SOON AS POSSIBLE because it's possible for a woman to have an STD with no symptoms, and as I said before STD's can cause problems with your fertility later on when you want babies.

Legally, also if you don't want your mother in your doctors appointment with you she can't be in there. If you tell the doctor you want to speak with just you and the doctor they can make your mom leave the room, otherwise they are at risk of being sued. It's called Doctor patient confidenciality, and it applies to you as well especially at the OBGYN's office. When my sister went to her appointment, she told the doctor that she didn't want my mother in there, and also told the doctor she did NOT want any of the stuff they discussed to be told to my mom either, and they didn't. as a matter of fact my mom can't even call in there to get info on her, because it would break the confidentiality.

The pap smear checks for HPV but it doesn't check for Chlamydia, HIV, Syphillis, etc. Your doctor needs to do a blood test to make sure you don't have those STDs. And as scary as it is- YOU NEED TO CHECK so you can prevent spreading it and so you can treat whatever you *may* have. It is the responsible thing to do.

As far as BC options- I would ask to speak with the OBGYN alone and voice your concerns. They can find something that will work for you.

Okay so for all of you that think the Depo shot MAKES you gain weight, you're actually wrong.

My 16 year old sister Darcee is on the Depo shot, and when I went with her to the docs for her last shot, the doc said exactly this to her because she was complaining to her that she's gained about 50lbs since she got on the shot.

"The Depo shot itself does NOT make you gain weight. There are no calories or ANYTHING in it to make you gain weight. It give you munchies. Makes you wanna eat more, and THAT'S what makes you gain weight."

If you control your eating habbits like I've seen other friends of mine do, then you'll have absolutely no problems with the Depo shot.
I've actually seen people lose weight on it before.
Everyone is different.
But watch out for the munchy cravings because on B/C or not, eating excessively will make you gain weight.

But besides that, there are other b/c options other than the depo shot.

After this baby I wanna get a different form of the depo shot with is a lil thing about the side of a grain of rice, and they inject it right under your skin and it stays there for 3 years or less if you decide you want it out before it expires.

Talk to your doc about different options for you. But to put your mind at ease, the depo shot itself does not make you gain weight.

I agree on the depo thing too....do not take it. Research all your options. It is your choice and your choice alone in what you choose to do and when you choose to do it. It is good to go for a pap to make sure you are healthy and if you are sexually active then you have the responsibility now to find a birth control that will work for you. Your mom is just entitled to her opinion.

I AGREE- NO DEPO, I got on it after having my daughter 7 years ago, have been off of it 2 years and still can't get preggers again, I have chronic pains in my leg and back because of the bone loss for being on it so long, NO ONE told me the side affects before I went on it, I was forced to get on it at 16, but only once before my mom threw me out, and it took 2 years to get preggo w/ my son then I got preggo w/ my daughter right after him, all together I have had the shot for over 7 years w/o knowing the side affects, it really screws up ur period too, I would bleen not at all for 3 months then bleed for 2 months straight, I agree w/ the other ladies, try something else, anything else, they have new forms out now too, seasonique only gives u 4 periods a year
