Emotional having to tell older children we'er expecting?

Whats a good way to break it to preteens?  Also when is it good after the first ultrasound or before n have them be involved?

I hope it all goes well, just remember their feelings can change, I know it does for us Adults.  I went from oh no what did I do?  How am I going to do this I have no baby items what so ever and the kids need braces on their teeth to finally being excited about it all.

We waited till after the 20 week anatomy scan then while visiting abuela in Puerto Rico, we told her & the children together. She's 16 and requests a sister, he's 17 and seems to care less but they both had the ahhhhhh moment when they realized why I stopped participating in family activities of ice skating & indoor rock climbing. They really are great children, honor roll students and I've made a huge effort to not make any changes in their routine.

Well with me I told my 10 and almost 13 year old as soon as I found out. My oldest was upset because she will have to move to another room that is smaller.  The plus side is it has a half bathroom and a bigger closet. Downside is its a little smaller space wise and its downstairs. I think she will appreciate it in the end. I also think its good for them to know why I'm not feeling good so they don't worry, it has actually helped. I think they are both starting to help more without me harping on them. My youngest deserves a medal, she has been pretty much been taking care of my parrrot for me, entertaining him while im resting and what not.
Wish you all the best!
