HCG levels, confusing!

I am having a hard time sorting all of this out. I have had 3 positive betas. 22dpo was 3043, 24dpo was 5780, and 26dpo was 7800. I am 5w3d from LMP. The numbers are high, and I realize they didn't double, but the first 2 went up by more than 66%. The last one went up only by 35%. I had a transvaginal u/s today and the doctor saw a gestational sac, with no yolk. With numbers that high shouldn't we have seen a yolk? But, I am only 5w3d, so could that be why he didn't see anything? Also, with numbers that high, does that rule out ectopic pregnancy? One last question, is it true that after you hit 6000, does it take 3-4 days to double? Thank you thank you for your expertise!

It has been hard not to get any answers all weekend, because of the holiday. I have to wait until Monday to even find out if it's ectopic! I have been conscious of every little ache and pain. I hope I am not missing something. Isn't it true hcg levels don't double for 4 days after 6500? My last number was 7800, and that was after 2 days. The previous number was 5700. I have a tilted uterus, could this have prevented the doc from seeing a yolk? I don't like this waiting... Thanks for all you help! Kim

i heard that some people's numbers double around 72 hours as opposed to 48 hours, also, once they reach a certain high amount they don't exactly double either... (again, something i've seen here and there on forums).

is he re-doing ultrasound in a week?  maybe he'll see more then.
best wishes. stephie

At the time of the ectopic, we would see anything not even the sac.  That is the biggest indicator that it is ectopic.  For this pg at 5wk2d we saw a sac, yolk and a tiny nubbie that was the beginning of the fetal pole.  I was told that 5wk2d was boarder line on whether we would see something or not so maybe there is still hope.

Take care and sorry you are going to such a tough time.  Hannah

Hi! Thanks for your response. That makes me feel better that it most likely isn't an ectopic with numbers that high. I am sorry you had an ectopic. So glad you're pregnant again! Did you see any gestational sac in either pregnancies at 5 and a half weeks? The doctor just saw a sac, no yolk, yet. Hopefully he will see one next week. Good luck with your pregnancy. Kim

If it was exctopic I don't think your numbers would be that high.  At 5wk2d mine was between 1000-2000.  Can't remember the number for sure tho.  When I had my ectopic they were way low.

I haven't experienced high numbers like that but wanted to share what little info I did have.  Sorry for all you are going through.  I know this is tough.
