Limbo

My sister went to her doctor two weeks ago. Her hCG was 30,000. They did a vaginal ultrasound and did not see anything in the uterus. She went back on Friday, a few days ago. She cannot recall what her hCG level was, only that it had increased in number, but not as much as expected. They called her at work with the numbers and told her that she probably had an ectopic pregnancy and had her come in after work for another ultrasound. During the ultrasound, the tech found a sac, but nothing else. My sister was told that the doctor would give her a call early this week.
By my sister's LMP, she should be 6 weeks pregnant.  My sister is in limbo land and driving herself crazy. I've had three children, but I have never had hCG levels drawn. I'm not sure what to tell her, and thought I would ask for an opinion.

Yes..I agree with 40smama and cpatow. For the reason that a too early ultrasound cannot tell the 100$ truth I decided to wait till 8 weeks next time before I have an ultrasound otherwise you might get worried for nothing and stress is the last a pregnant woman needs.

When I was 6w4d I had an u/s where they saw a sac but no fetal pole or heart beat. They told me they should be able to see everything by that time so I, of course, thought I was going to miscarry. Went back at 7w0d and, low and behold, there was a sac, a fetal pole AND a heart beat. Doc told me to be cautiously optimistic but to wait until my next visit for a repeat u/s to know for sure. Went in at 9w2d and same thing...sac, fetal pole and heartbeat.

So, with many women, yes you can see things that early (most women even) but with me they didn't and I have seen a number of replies on this board mentioning the same.

Tell your sis to hang tight for another week and then get a repeat u/s.

I would suggest that she have a repeat u/s done in week's time.  Six weeks is a little early to be able to see a whole lot and it could be that she ovulated later in her cycle & may not be as far along as thought.  Good luck to your sis & I hope everything turns out great!
