Update - Dilated four centimeters at 17wks

Hi all,

I posted this over in the maternal and child forum but I'm not sure how many of you make it over there, so I wanted to let you know what is going on.  I had a routine u/s scheduled last tuesday.. they decided to check my cervix based on my history and symptoms I was having.  My cervix was dilated 4 centimeters.  They did a emergent cerclage and I have been in the hospital ever since.  I might be able to go home tomorrow but I will be on bed rest for a very long time...  I have a 15 month old baby at home, so I really don't know how well I will be able to stick to it, but will do my best along with help.

If anybody has a happy ending story on a situation like this, I would LOVE to hear/see it.

Since I will be on bedrest, I'm sure I will be lurking around here a bunch!!

Oh no Hannah!
I haven't checked in for quite a while and now I do and see this! Geeze. I wish I lived closer. I'd love to help out and do some fun outdoor stuff. Bedrest is a necessary evil, though. Follow those drs orders to a T!!!  Keep me updated. I'm putting in some extra prayer requests ((hugs))

Hannah - I didn't know about your mother - I'm so sorry!

How are you doing today?  I think your plan to have Jacob in day care during the day & w/dh in the evenings is very reasonable.  I'm just worried about the hours between daycare closing & dh getting home.  If Noah's a lot to handle at 12 1/2 months, I can just imagine what Jacob's up to.

I wish I lived close to you so I could help! - jen

Thanks you guys... i'm trying to just take it one step at a time.. if I think about being on bed rest the entire pg, I just get overwhelmed.  Partly for me but mostly because I think about all the fun stuff I wanted to do with my son this summer.  And I don't want him to have to spend most of his summer in the house with me.

My MIL is coming in town on monday, but she will only be here for a couple of weeks.  My mother lives about 8 hours away and was recently diagnosed with an extremely aggressive stage 3 cancer.  A couple people have offered to help, but it seems like most of their offers were to help out with jacob in their house... if he is in daycare all day and at their house in the evenings.. i would never see him and that just isn't a reasoable solution...  If i can just get people to pick him up from daycare and bring him to me, I think I can handle it till DH gets home..  DH doesn't get home till after the daycare closes..  All I would have to do is feed Jacob...  It probably isn't want the dr would want but I don't know what else I can do.... DH doesn't work every day so he would do it on his days off...  we'll just have to work it out the best we can and hope it is enough.

Hannah thank God your OB checked your cervix and decided to make the extremely wise decision of stitching that cervix closed with a cerclage.  Try your best to stick to the bedrest orders. See if you can get some close friends or family to assist you at home.  Have certain people help you on certain days so one person won't be burned out.    It is so well worth it.  Putting too much pressure on your cervix by not abiding to the bedrest and walking around can cause you to break through the cerclage.  It is possible and not a good thing.  I will pray that there is a loving and kind person(s) out there that is willing to assist you during this time because you need it especially with a busy body 15 month old. My niece is near that same age and she gets into everything so you will definitely need an extra set of hands or two or three (lol)!!!  Praying that all goes well.  Remember Hannah rest.  I am sure your OB and his/her staff have told you to report any concerning signs (meaning signs of labor) like having contractions in a regular pattern, like every 5 minutes (contractions that are painful and that you cannot talk through), bright red bleeding, an extreme amount of vaginal pressure, etc.  Follow Dr.'s orders and keep your eyes on the prize....A healthy baby!!!

Hannah, I am so sorry!!!! I am glad that your doctor caught this in time. I know that you are not looking forward to the bedrest but sadly it is best.  I will keep you in my prayers and I hope to hear good news from you soon!!!!!

Oh, god, Hannah!!!

All I can say is Thank God they checked your cervix.  I had no idea that you were in the hospital.

Please keep us updated - I'm thinking of you.  I've had bedrest but not nearly as long as this but it did turn out good.  There was a woman on the pregnancy ablation thread (maternal/child forum) who had bedrest for a different reason from about 17 weeks on & delivered successfully at 35 weeks

Btw, did you find out the sex of the baby?  Do you have any family around who can help you w/Jacob?  Please take care, hon! - jen.
