Disorientation/Dizziness

I had a strange thing happen to me tonight.  I got off the elevator in our building and briefly could not remember where I was.  I don't remember the elevator ride at all, just getting off and I honestly did not know where I lived.  It was really scary.  It only last a few seconds, but in that time I actually went to the wrong apartment.  I am feeling pretty dizzy and somewhat disorientated still...kind of like I am in floating, dreamlike state.  It's really weird.  I know I haven't been sleeping all that great..finding it tough to get comfortable.  I also hosted Thanksgiving this year and am totally exhausted...everyone has gone home now...whew. I am wondering if it's just due to being overtired.  Anyone else go through this? It's a bit scary.  I didn't lose consciousness or anything, just sort of a blanked out few minutes.  I am not sure how exactly to explain it.  Baby is nice and active, so I am sure all is well with him, it's just me.  Really out of sorts.

Thanks everyone.  It hasn't happened again, so I really think I just got overtired. I was pretty dead on my feet after Thanksgiving weekend.  Tabitha, no name yet, but I think the child is stuck with beaner as a nickname for good.  Everyone now refers to him that way...friends, family...lol.  I guess its better the "Beaver"...or maybe not..ha.

Glad to hear your feeling better! That can be scary! I used to get dizzy alot and my doctor always told me it was from my BP getting low. IDK. Anyways take care of your self and little beaner! Have you picked a name yet?? Beaner is cute, lol!

Just plain exhaustion. The same thing has happened to me after getting home from a long trip with jet lag etc. Didn't recognize my DH sitting right there beside me! Just thought he was "some guy" (and heck, we've been together since 1983) Same weird, dreamy feeling. And I wasn't even pregnant!

You'll be fine!

Glad u r feeling better.

During my pregnancies- I ahve had that feeling lots- low blood pressure and blood sugar.

I fainted during my last pregnancy (live birth) and actually broke a bone- but didnt go to the er for a few days- and it was a bad break- they kept trying to do surgery- and I kept reminding them I was PG. During that time in the cast-. I had aNOTHER young baby in the house- so it was HARD! Plus I was using cloth diapers- which was really hard. (My ex did not believe in changing diapers/never even attended the births.) So no help there.

Anyhow- if you do have LBS- the reccommend eating like crackers/cheese/juice.. HTHS

Thanks everyone.  I went to bed at 9 last night and just got up a bit ago...it's 6am here.  I feel much better, I had a deep sleep for the first time in a week or so.  That must have been what it was. Scary stuff though, it was so weird.  Trudi, so great to see you posting girlfriend!  And Debbie, you can come visit me in Canada any time!

It is medically proven that you forget things when you're pregnant and that's no lie.  It sounds like that plus being tired and over doing it a little.  You need to slow down a little.  Gosh, I would hate to have to come to Canada....lol

Love Ya - Debbie
Slow down honey and take it easy for a few days.

Hi Amanda,

Long time no type LOL!

I also experienced dizziness in my pregnancies and the doctor told me it is due to the amount of blood volume that is increased as your pregnancy progresses and then you also get warm easier so the blood vessels constrict, causing dizziness. Also, did you eat enough and stay hydrated? With your increased blood volume (50% increase with a singleton and doubles with twins), you will need to keep well hydrated, which will also help prevent Braxton Hicks contractions later in your pregnancy.

I guess my best advice is to grab a huge glass of water and a small snack, sit or lay down with your feet up and relax. If your dizziness doesn't go away see your doctor.

Hope you feel better soon!

Amanda,

I'll start by saying it took me a minute to figure out you are in Canada and therefore celebrating Thanksgiving today!  I was very confused!!  (It isn't until November in the US.)

You sound tired, defintely.  Did you eat enough today?  In hot kitchen for too long?  Probably worth a call to your doctor tomorrow just to check in, though.

Get some rest and sleep tight!

Scary, Amanda.  I hope you feel better soon.  Sounds like it could be from being overtired.  I really hope it doesn't happen again.
Take it easy and take really good care of yourself.
