? for peek and anyone else on pre-eclampsia

ok, heres the scoop.. I am 40 and 34 weeks pregnant with twins, Just recently my blood pressure decided to go from 110/70.. which is the norm for me to 166/102. I went to the doctor, they did the NST--> every thing was fine. monitered BP every 15 min x 2 hours, it was up there for a good hour then came down to 124/76. CBC and CMP were ok, nothing significant and no protein in the urine. HOWEVER...He said to me, I feel the is is the start of pre-eclampsia, was not going to send me home, I cried.. Bbayprayers is a big baby and hates being cooped up.. anyway he opted to send me home and I am doing a 24 hour urine, I have been checking BP at home, at rest it is perfect, the littlest exertion it goes up, I would think if it was pre-eclampsia it would stay up and not flucuate, I mean going from 160/100 to 142/76 with in 20 min is a huge change, I go back to the doctors on monday, he will decide at that point if he is going to admit me and possible take the babies early. I just wanted some insight and peek you are the expert here, and anyone else who has gone thru it. thanks to all

I would side with your doctor.  I would have recommended you stay in the hospital, too.

It is not always true that if you have PIH or pre-eclampsia that your BP will go up and stay up.
The good news is that your labs are ok.  Hopefully the 24 hour urine is going to be good.

I think that you won't be pregnant a whole lot longer.  Get ready.

Hi Luci...
My pre-eclampsia came on only during labour...apparantly an unusual onset..I'm 34 with normally great BP. during pregnancy it was always around 90-100/55-60...

I got my show at 7:30am and had irregular contractions all day, with nothing but a very severe headache..( thought it was due to lack of sleep )...went to hospital at 7pm ( should've gone a LOT earlier, was playing with fire but didn't realise it at the time ) and discovered my BP was 147/100 with ++ urine. I had an epidural which usually lowers BP in itself but didn't wk. Over the next 8hrs, until Holly was born, my BP remained high but varied from 147/100 to 165/110. I was taking nifitimine (sp? ), and had Hydralazine drip and Magnesium Sulphate drip to stop me convulsing. Ended up with natuaral delivery and healthy baby..MY BP was all over the place for 2 days post delivery, and was told I was extremely lucky not to go to full blown eclapmsia..

Your reading was quite high, and don't worry it does change greatly in short spaces of time..be very careful! and if u get a nasty headache, call your doc!

Good luck with ur appt tom..keen to find out how it goes!...Take good care of yourself.
