Found out I'm anemic

ob called the other day to let me know my GT was fine, but that I'm anemic, and wants me to take iron supplements 2x a day in addition to my prenatal.

thats about 500% more than the daily recommended.

i looked up symptoms of anemia during pregnancy and had quite a few:
leg cramps, dizziness, lightheaded, pale, out of breath going up stairs, insomnia, tired...

I remember posting about leg cramps way in the beginning...
and we all thought it was low potassium, or not enough water...
anyway... taking lots of iron, trying to not get constipated.  ugh.  been taking iron for 4 days now, feeling better/stronger.  still getting leg cramps and pale. (feeling not so pretty)

stephie  p.s. i added pictures in my profie.

I'll start adding nuts and rasins...

and fiber rich cereal.  I like that All Bran with yogart bites.

cpatow - I think they may check your iron when they did the GT...  (with me they did anyway)

You may want to do some research on iron rich foods too. I had low iron with my first and added raisins, almonds and several other foods to my diet . . . it really helped, those may help prevent constipation too. Good luck.

Your pictures are great. We are due the same week and our bellies look like their are about the same size too! Great to see someone else with a baby belly at this stage. Thank you for sharing!

Oh, I just love all of the pictures. I don't know about the whole anemia thing and I go for my GD test next Wed. I sure hope you don't get constipated!!

I'm there with you.  I also have been feeling better since I'm taking the supplements. I didn't use to have leg cramps but I do now :) But I don't get out of breath anymore going up the stairs, I feel less tired and more energetic.  I don't get a lot of iron (just 60 mg) but I changed my diet to boost up the level. Lots of beans, instead of bread or pasta.
