no fetal pole

Hi, I've been searching the net for a few days and decided to post. I'm prepared for the worst and hoping for the best.  I am 37, currently pregnant and have a 5 year old boy, it took a very long time to get pregnant both times.  Here is my issue: I am 8 weeks LMP, measuring 6 weeks 4 days. I had a vaginal sonogram that detected no fetal pole. I've had no bleeding and I still feel pregnant. My hcg levels are good, not sure of the numbers and my protesterone is low (I've started treatment) I was told to wait another week for a second sonogram but to be "guarded". I am very nervous and don't have much hope. Has anyone had a similar situation? I would like to hear the good and bad to be prepared. Thank you!

I agree 100% with the others, another ultrasound is such a good idea.  Especially if the tech thought there was growth between the last two.  I did the same thing prior to my D&C's and although in my case it wasn't a positive outcome, I am not left wondering.  I hope the growth they are looking for is there.  Please let us know how you are doing.  All the best.  Amanda

Oh, Maggie I am so glad you are forcing them to do another u/s. I actually know someone who was scheduled for a d&c and she demanded another u/s before they did it and guess what....there was perfectly healthy baby in there!!!

I know your pain I had m/c myself and I actually lost my beautiful son Cooper on July 23rd due to a heart condition. He was only 7 wks old.  I am praying extra hard for you that they find a healthy little bean.... don't worry I got man Coop on it!!!

Please keep us posted and try to keep the faith!!

I guess because according to my LMP I should be 9 weeks by now and there should be more development going on.  I will keep posted,  thanks for the concern and good wishes.

If the tech saw a bright area that could be the fetal pole, why would the doctor schedule a D & C?  I pray the blood work will show high HCG levels.  I am glad that you requested another u/s.  We are all hoping that you receive your miracle, dearheart.  Keep everyone posted, will you?

All the Best,
Heather

update, had another U/S today and tech said she thinks now she sees a bright area that could be the fetal pole.  Doctor drew more blood and scheduled an D & C for next Tuesday, before the D & C they will do one more U/S. I know my chances are slim to none but insisted on the last U/S.

Hi again, thanks guys for getting back to me, not sure how low was low, but I'm taking 200 mg 2 x day of prometrium.  adgal, thanks for clearing that up for me, it really is so confusing how they go by the date of the LMP. I'm starting to feel like there might be hope.  I will update monday, im going away for the w/e to get my mind off the situation and try and relax and be positive.

Just try to keep in mind that every pregnancy and every woman is a bit different. If you know the date of LMP, they are basing your 8week + on "textbook" cycle.  28 day cycle with ovulation on day 14.  Not all of us fit into that.  If your cycle is longer, or you ovulated later then day 14, that can account for some of the discrepency. Also, implantation can take up to 10 days.  If you have no signs of miscarriage (bleeding, heavy cramping) and your HCG's are rising, those are all good signs.  Your next ultrasound will show if there has been the appropriate amount of growth and thats really important.  I know this waiting time can make you crazy, but I do wish you all the best, and I hope for a positive outcome.  Take care.
