Finally home

Well I'm finally home.
thought for  sure I was coming home yesterday..very few contractions Fri and Sat but of course as you all know tell someine they're goin home and BAM...7 contractions in 20 mins

Had us tour NICU yesterday...the charge nurse sucked...absolutely no bed side manner.  She had me in tears in less than 2 minutes.  She showed me this poor lil 1lb1oz baby (23 weeks)...hello dumb @ss my baby is already almost 4 lbs.  It was awful.  But then last night the neonatal DR came in to talk to us and reassured us with facts like...... 80% of babies born at 30 weeks need only oxygen by mask at delivery and...... a breathing tube because the sucking reflex isnt there most need nothing :O)  Unlike the other dummy who scared the SH@T out of me.

She has had her 4 steroid shots and  they uped my dose of terbutaline (to stop the contractions)
we seem to be holding out.  I am on bed rest till delivery and alternate going to Ob and NEONATOLOGIST EVERY OTHER WEEK SO i WILL BE GONG TO DR EVERY WEEK>>>>
I have to say it was nice gettign to know the nurses at L&D they were all very nice but I told them I didnt want to see them for quiet a while.
ladies thanks for keeping me in your thoughts

Hey Sheila,

Glad you are home and contractions have stopped.. I'm sure this has been a very intense experience.  That is great to know your baby will make it with minimal extra assistance just incase she insists on coming early.

I don't know if you saw it or not but pertykitty had her little girl addision.  She wasn't due yet but everything is fine as far as I know.  She has a link to her picture in her profile journal.

Take care and follow your dr orders.. get your rest.

Dang girl! Couldn't just have a nice simple pregnancy, could you? lol  All kidding aside, I am sooo glad you are home. Bed rest certainly bites, but it's a necessary evil. Keep that bun in the oven a little longer :)

Hey Sheila - I'm so glad that they've got the labor under control and very, very sorry (and angry too) that that b i t c h nurse made you feel so bad and scared you to death.  I had a similar scare once and I never forgot it.

You take it easy - no cooking but plenty of eating - like you already know that!  But seriously like patty said, rent those dvds & if you have a dvr, catch up on all of those shows (guilty pleasure or not) that you'd love to watch but were too busy to see.

I'm so glad that the baby is at 4 lbs - that's a great weight and it sounds like you and the baby are getting (and will continue to get) great care!! - Take care of yourself!! - jen (16w5d)

I'm so jealous - you might get an amazing present for Christmas - but for now, pat your tummy for me and tell her to just stay right where she is until she is done cooking - she is going to be fine - you are so close and I'm glad the doctor was so reassuring - just to make you laugh - we were talking about babies the other day at school - one of the kindergarteners told me her aunt was going to the doctor and they were going to take her baby out on Monday - knowing her aunt is about a month behind me I told the little girl - well, I don't think they are going to take the baby out yet, the baby isn't ready - so the little girl looked at me and said - why not?  I tried to explain its like a cake baking, if you take it out to early, it isn't done yet - love her heart - this little girl thought about that for a minute and replied - well if you leave the baby in too long - will she get burnt???  lol

So stop being being the grand poobah of National Worry Warts Anonymous - that's my job - just sit back and enjoy the next couple of weeks until your little girl is born HEALTHY and HAPPY!  (and less cute then my Fred!!  lol)  Repeat after me - all will be well, all will be well, all will be well!  We're here for ya - whatever you need!

So happy to hear you are home now and baby is doing good!!  You will be very busy with doctor visits in the weeks to come!!  But it must give you some reassurance to meet the neonatologist.  At least they know your situation and can be prepared for it.  I'm glad your little beauty got her steroid shots - she will be fine!!!  Heck they usually like the babies to weigh 5 pounds before leaving the NICU and your honey is already 4 pounds!  If you think about it they consider 37 weeks to be "term" so you are really only 6 weeks early at this point!

My brother-in-laws sister just had a premie in August at 28 weeks.  He also got his shots prior to being delivered but they were unable to stop her labor for very long (she actually has something wrong with her cervix or uterus, 2nd time this has happened so no more kids for her).  He weighed 3-something at birth and is totally fine.  He was in the NICU for quite a few weeks but has been home for awhile and is doing great!!  He had trouble latching on at first but now is a pro at that too.  I don't think you will have any problems!!

Just take it easy and rest.  Rent some dvd's, have hubby buy you some books, and catch up on Oprah and Dr. Phil!!  I was also thinking you could look into those memory foam mattress covers for your bed if you are getting sore.  My mom has bad bad arthritis and that REALLY helps her at night.  Also if you don't already have a baby book, have dh pick one up and you could start filling it out.  These are just ideas for your bedrest!  Keep us updated!!!!  I will be thinking of you and hoping your little babylove calms down a little and waits at least until Christmas to arrive (That's probably what it is after all - she doesn't want to miss out on presents this year!!)   Take care!! :-)

Oh Sheila,
I'm so glad to hear that you are home and everything is going well so far *knock on wood*. Two of my nieces had their baby at 29 weeks, they are 3 and 4 1/2 today and you would never be able to tell they were very early. Your lil one is going to stay right there in mommy's belly where she can get big big big before she decides to join you in this crazy world we live. The nurse sounds like she has only taken care of someone else's babies and not had any of her own. The nurse I had when I had my daughter 17 yrs ago taped her ID bracelet to her belly because it had fallen off her ankle. When I asked if they were going to remove it before we left, the nurse just grabbed hold of the corner and ripped it off her lil belly. Oh I was PI$$ED!! I told her the next baby I had she was not going to even look at!! And 7 years later, when I went into labor I instructed the other nurses to NOT let that witch around my baby!!

Good luck to you and your lil one here on out!! So Glad you are home! Sorry you have to be in bed but Dr's orders!!

((HUGS))
